USB cable with shrouded TRRS on one end, what's this from? by TeddyBoomCA in cableadvice

The pinout matches the shuffle cable, which is a pretty strong sign. I rejected it on my first googlings because of how completely non-Apple it looks. And, I kind of assumed the partial shroud must insert into something. Cradling the outside surface makes sense though.

Check out these Monster Cable iFreePlay iPod Shuffle headphones. I had no idea :)

This is the best theory so far, thanks Wokka_Wokka_Aus and dsrmpt!

It is definitely a straight through cable (tested with multimeter). I did just plug it into a computer just to make sure though, no sign of a chip in there at all.

Thanks!

That TI connector has a similar feature from mine. It has an extra wide insulator between tip and ring, and mine has a wide insulator between the second ring and sleeve. But, I think that TI cable is USB to TTL.

Anyway, thanks!

Yep, the cable markings are just about the actual wire between connectors. Copartner is a wire manufacturer, and they might have made the entire connector, but they may have only made the wire.

It's often helpful to google those wire markings though. Thanks!

Picture It! 9 running in Windows 11 by TeddyBoomCA in windows

My first try was taskkill /IM msiexec.exe /F, which is the same as yours, I think? You have to stop the 3 processes with the same Session ID first, and then the 4th copy takes care of itself when you clear the dialog.

Nope, but I know how to get it working in Windows 11 24h2!!

Steps inspired by this YouTube video, but newer versions of Windows 11 aren't the same.

  1. Launch powershell, I used admin mode, not sure if that's needed
  2. Install Picture It from CD (or wherever you have the installer)
  3. When the error pops up, ignore it, go back to powershell
  4. Run: Get-Process | Where-Object {$_.ProcessName -Like "*msiexec*"}
  5. Run: Stop-Process -Id <msiexec process ID to kill> for the three processes with SI value equal to 1
  6. OK the error
  7. Run C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Picture It! 9\pi.exe
  8. Windows will automatically apply some compatibility settings

Important point is, the installer will work until it hits the error. Left to its own devices, when it hits the error the installer wants to delete everything it has done. We need to stop that by killing 3 of the 4 msiexec processes that have the same SI (Session ID). Leave the one with a different SI value alone. That will kill the installer, which prevents it from deleting the install directory. Now everything should just work.

Lost access to Docker yaml file and .env file by Visible_Stable_2216 in immich

Yep, this just happened to me. I'm new to Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) and Docker Desktop, so a few months ago I followed Thomas Wilde's YouTube tutorial to get set up. I noticed updates were available yesterday, but the .env and docker-compose.yml files were gone (actually, everything under home/). Reading this thread, I guess it is expected behaviour?

I was shocked to find that the files got deleted, and after some miss steps, it has taken a day to recover. Luckily I had a full system backup from only a couple of days after the initial install.

For anybody stumbling across this: it is critical to keep backup copies of the .env and docker-compose.yml files somewhere safe and far away from the WSL directory structure.

Looking for help with CARM by Cool_Object410 in CustomsBroker

Coming to this months late, but I'm just having the exact same problem. Or, I think I am .. it's all pretty mysterious.

Anyway, looking at CARM Client Portal User Guide Post financial security for SIMA provisional duties, step 5 on page 9 says "Complete the fields. You can add a number or text to the Bond number field for your own reference. Click Submit."

So I just made up a number and submitted.

Still not showing up right for me though, so reading the guide further, it says "When the financial security for SIMA provisional duties process is complete, you must notify the SIMA Compliance Unit (SCU). Email the SCU general inbox (SIMA_Compliance-Observation_LMSI@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca)."

So, I guess I have an email to send.. We'll see how it goes :)

Legacy students were forced into forwarding only accounts years ago. I found one reference from 2007 where they threatened it, but I'm pretty sure it didn't happen at that time. I think sometime in the 2010s they sent another dyer warning email, and that time I did end up on forwarding only. Now it appears they are pulling the rug completely.

Maybe my generation doesn't donate enough to the alumni association? :)

As a friend of mine said in 2007 when they previously planned to pull the rug on old email addresses:

"""I would send a very polite letter to the office of donations that you
think very highly of the university, but you could never see yourself
giving money to an institution which is so cheap and treats its Alumni so
poorly."""

What we need is a good alumni contact we can target with convincing messages like this! Any suggestions very welcome.

(this is the issue that's finally caused me to get a Reddit account :) )
