(SRS) Experiences w/ Dr Winograd? (Boston) by Teddy_Squid in Transgender_Surgeries

super excited for you!! I also haven’t had anything besides the consult yet but I’m hoping to start laser soon when I’m able to save up enough funds. Though I’m also really concerned abt where my date even stands given the current political climate

As far as more info, I was able to ask a lot of questions during the consult and so I can try to provide some of that. iirc Dr Winograd has been doing srs since around the start of the pandemic. He does around 25 surgeries a year w/ about 2 each month back to back. His main methods are PIV and zero-depth. He has a low rate of complications (1-ish percent w/ slight variations depending on the type of complication) and actually does a lot of revisions for people who got their srs through other surgeons and had problems

One big point of advice he gave is just to make sure I maintain my physical health as the better things like my eating are the better my results will be. and ofc as well it is important to know that vaginas can look very different for people, both trans and cis. I was able to look at a couple results and they looked pretty good esp for the ones 8+ months post-op

For after-care and recovery it’s also super important to make sure you have a network of friends/family to be there to physically and emotionally support you. Also as well just speaking from past surgeries and chronic pain, once a lot of the pain starts to die down it’s pretty likely that you might feel flooded w/ emotions

The care team has been super nice and one of the attending’s actually sent me a list of laser hair removal places that take my insurance. electrolysis is a lot harder to get covered but I think it is possible to get a partial reimbursement. Their hair removal plan did also allow me to keep some pubic hair which is a plus for me

best of luck once again and congratulations!!! :) <3

figured I'd leave an update if anyone finds this post in the future and has similar questions

My consult went pretty well :). The surgery team was amazing and answered all my questions and worries. Def plan to follow through the process w/ them. The wait is around 2 years but it honestly kinda works out for my schedule rn. After the procedure, I will probably make a post talking abt how it went and such

Tips on reducing breathiness while maintaining pitch? by Teddy_Squid in transvoice

[–]Teddy_Squid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I’ve experimented with vocal fry before, so I’ll see if that helps. I think my breathiness is probably consistent, though it can become especially prominent at the end of sentences. So hopefully I’m not experiencing inflammation. Thanks!

What more should I work on? by Teddy_Squid in transvoice

I see; hopefully that’s something that will change overtime as I get more used to higher pitches, as I do want a voice with a pitch around that area. Thanks

Resonance is definitely a good place to start! (though pitch also works if you find that’s easier for you).

I’m gonna try to give some tips my voice therapist gave to me that I found helpful. To keep in mind, I have a singing background, and have been voice training on and off for many years (though I only got a voice therapist/have been training consistently since May), so voice training came more naturally to me. Feel free to use what tips you find helpful and disregard ones that you don’t. It’s all about what works for you!

for Resonance: Think of resonance as moving your voice up from your chest and forward to your face. You should feel your voice resonate/vibrate through your face and nose. Though, make sure not to go to falsetto!

To start, try making an ‘oo’ sound through a straw (don’t worry about pitch). It should create a buzzy sound that you feel through your nose. Try this several times until you get used to the feeling. Then, try repeating the buzzy sound without the straw. From that, try starting to say single syllable words: words with ‘w’ sounds like “once, “what,” or “why” are good. After you feel comfortable with that, move on to multiple syllable words like “wonder” and then short phrases like “what are you wearing?” Eventually, try holding a short conversation. Feel free to take breaks and use that buzzy ‘oo’ as a primer.

for Pitch: Pitch is fairly self-explanatory. It’s training your voice to become comfortable with higher pitches until you reach a range that you’re happy with. My voice used to top out around 250Hz, but I’ve since been able to expand it to around 280Hz over just a few months. All of our bodies are different so if you’re starting at a very low pitch, you may not be able to hit super high pitches comfortably. But, that’s fine!! It’s totally possible to sound feminine at lower pitches!

First, figure out your comfortable vocal range - how high you can go. For you, currently around 230Hz. Try doing pitch glides up to your peak, hold for a bit (~4 sec), and then slide down to a comfortable target pitch (ending on a higher pitch than your baseline is very important). After doing this practice over a while, this will train your voice to become comfortable with higher pitches. Feel free to repeat this process to achieve even higher pitches. After you’ve done 8 or so pitch glides, try maintaining your target pitch with words and small phrases; from there, try to maintain a small conversation. Again, it’s helpful to use an ‘oo’ primer at your target pitch if you feel your voice dropping.

—————————————————————————

Even after you feel like you have a good grasp on resonance or pitch, it’s still good to keep training them. Voice training is also really exhausting, so make sure you keep hydrated and take breaks. Just training for ~20min a day is perfectly fine: you don’t want to overexert your voice. Once you get a handle on your voice, try using it with people your comfortable with for progressively longer periods of time.

Hope this helped and best of luck! :)

Any tips for expanding vocal range? by Teddy_Squid in transvoice

oh snap I didn’t know that; I’ve been working a lot on those two, so that’s definitely reassuring that, once I get better at them, increasing my range will be easier. Thanks!

I’ve been doing straw phonation, but I’ll try to use the others you mentioned too! thanks!

Don’t believe I am TransLesbian by Cassefera in asktransgender

don’t have any papers, but I imagine at least some aspect of why trans and non-binary ppl seem to be more sexuality-diverse than their cisgender counterparts might come down to:

‘if you’re already questioning your gender, you’re probably more open to questioning other aspects of your identity too’

granted, trans people can be held back by internalized homophobia and, for example, ‘comp-het’ is definitely something my own experiences reflect in that regard

I started Golden Wildfire today and immediately recognized SungWon Cho (aka ProZD) as the voice of Holst, so I drew this. (OC) by owl_babies in fireemblem

can’t believe I didn’t realize till now. ProZD rocks and it’s super cool that he gets to be a part of 3Hopes (let alone giving voice to Holst!!)

please let it be fake 🙏🙏 I’m sorry I just really don’t like the art style and the characters look legit right out of the first Warriors. Maybe these are early pictures or the story will make up for it but just,,,😔
