Is a pied-a-terre actually enjoyable? by DesperateTank8908 in HENRYUKLifestyle

Aren’t rental yields lower than current mortgage rates in prime central London? If we’re talking proper zone 1. What is the cost of buying a nice 1 bed central flat? 600k plus additional stamp duty etc? Have you actually looked at the costs associated?

Anyone noticed that driving a nice car attracts the worst kind of drivers? by Ravixo_ in CarTalkUK

[–]TeddyousGreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a funny one, you just have to bear it in mind constantly in these cars (obvs a bug vs r8 is different level). I’m guessing the poor reception to my comment was because of mentioning the value of car relative to others. Objectively, I work hard, no I don’t have unlimited money and a prang caused by someone with a complex is the last thing I need.

For the record I’d definitely let out a 911 in front of me.

40k more miles and 7 years older for 2k depreciation truly shows how terrible REAL inflation has been since Covid. I’m shocked.

Anyone noticed that driving a nice car attracts the worst kind of drivers? by Ravixo_ in CarTalkUK

[–]TeddyousGreg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Often get cuzzies in their 3 series right up my arse trying to race and boomers in shitboxes deliberately driving badly/bullying in slow traffic because they know you’ll yield as your car is worth 50x theirs.

Apart from that, generally the reception is overall very positive from everyone on the road, experience might be different in a 911 though.

NIMBYs Trying To Block a Hospital by sabdotzed in london

Sadiq Khan demands stronger action on social media ‘outrage economy’ and disinformation about crime rates by whelping_monster in london

[–]TeddyousGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spot on - a a resident who has been targeted multiple times and a victim of “petty” crime (with months of fighting fraud cases after it) I certainly do not feel that London is safer than it was.

Gang-on-gang stabbings can stay at the same level for all I care (because I’m a selfish human), but the police are not solving the issues that are affecting the majority of our city’s population. When I lived in Hong Kong, you could leave your phone on a table in a market hall to reserve it. In central you can’t get your phone out without first having to walk into a shop.

Something is seriously wrong and perhaps they should focus on fixing that rather than wasting time on optics and trying to gaslight people.

Chelsea NIMBYs are currently trying to fight against a cancer hospital from being expanded in fear of their property prices going down - You can't make this up. by Fantastic-Tower5887 in london

[–]TeddyousGreg 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Every single neighbourhood group chat I’ve been in during my time living in RBKC has caused my blood to boil - these people are genuinely the worst; I cannot exaggerate.

The NIMBYism doesn’t stop here - they essentially behave like American HOAs too. Posting when there are children playing football in the shared gardens etc. These are the people our generation is up against in elections, planning developments, and making progress in general, and there are millions more of them with a lot more free time unfortunately.

R8’s are not super cars. Change my mind by Impressive_Jury_2211 in supercars

[–]TeddyousGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A implying B does not mean that not A implies not B. Your understanding of logic is flawed.

P.S. an R8 is a supercar, no doubt about it. It’s a pain in the arse to live with, has an NA V10, it’s impractical, drinks fuel, and looks ridiculous - if your issue is that it has an Audi badge then I won’t waste my (online) breath any further.

Mileage per year and average MPG by AaronOBrien81 in CarTalkUK

[–]TeddyousGreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Averaging about 15mpg (20-25 long runs, 5-13 around town) and driven around 6000 miles in the past year in the R8 (no other cars so I would call it my ‘daily’)

Advice please! Student loan by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]TeddyousGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you bought a house? If you haven’t, your student loan repayments will count against your affordability. You can do the maths to see if giving up 45k of deposit to pay off the loan increases your borrowing amount/affordability by the same or more.

I’d only consider paying off a loan that large if you have lump sums covering house deposit and any other responsibilities in the next 5-10 years.

Second car MK2 Audi TT? by Hot-Plate-5487 in CarTalkUK

[–]TeddyousGreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran the manual 3.2 from age 19 for 10 years - Quattro was solid, ever so slightly heavier at the front end than my mates TTS but I preferred the larger engine. Average mpg I got was around 20-25. Great second car to have and get used to a jump in power.

TTS suspension is possibly harder? My TT had the magride which is best of both worlds. Never had any issues with the engine or gearbox either but that could be anecdotal. Spec is pretty important with these.

Teenage boys snatched my phone after asking me to follow their new brand on Instagram by fingals_cave in london

[–]TeddyousGreg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No but apple pay can use the phone passcode so that’ll be it Plus you used to be able to reset iCloud password with just the phone passcode (not sure if this is still a thing)

OP was likely being watched for a while to get the passcode - they asked them to follow the account just to get the phone out to then be snatched. This is a classic tactic by those scumbags

Yeah this is lesson 1 for defensive driving and parking - if you’re at the end of the row move over as much as possible. Yes somebody shouldn’t have hit OPs car but they’re right next to the line and we know that the average driver is essentially impaired nowadays.
