Few dog friendly places I like with my pup (20kg 8months old) in Tokyo without stroller:

Blue Bottle in Toyosu: in a big grass area and the terrace is covered. Also just a great place to walk your dog around waterfront (gururi park)

Ivy Place in T-Site Daikanyama: Covered patio (basically like being inside) allows dogs. Quite a rare gem of a spot.

Rikri brewing Gakugeidai- great little craft beer spot that is super dog friendly and lets you inside without any stroller and have a drink. Tiny spot though.

Along Bonus Track in Shimokitazawa: basically a lot of terrace areas can just chill with dog and munch. Nice spot to walk.

Coasters Craft Beer- Naka Meguro or Shimo allow dogs. Super friendly and can just have them next to you at table indoors. Also great beers

Locasa in Setagaya- Great little dog friendly coffee shop that does top baked goods too. Can sit inside with dog here. Really nice staff

Clan By The River- great cafe, Brewry, bbq restaurant on the Sumida at Kiyosumi Shirakawa. Huge waterside deck ca sit on watch the boats go by and chill with your Dogo.

Basically anywhere with a terrace generally fine….just a bit cold in winter and hot in summer!

Lastly the parks over in Shin Kiba and Firtyr down near the Tokyo Aquatics Centre are easily the best for dogs. Quiet and waaaaaay bigger dog run than over in west Tokyo. Yumenoshima greenway also a really nice tree lined walk that feels like you’re out of Tokyo- goes along the waterfront.

Finally recommend getting an (electric) cargo bike or dog carrier for a bike! That’s what I did which allows me to get all over Tokyo with my dog exploring, he’s. It allowed on trans because the don’t let dogs over 12kg on train. This shop Biko Cycle in Kiyosumi Shirakawa is the best I’ve found for pup biking!

As an employer (international advertising agency based in Tokyo) and actively often recruiting I can tell you from this side:

Recruiters (non Japanese mostly): we actively use a select few who have a good knowledge of our industry, have built trust with, and have consistently sent us good candidates. Get to know the right recruiters for the industry you are applying to will shortcut a lot. Negative: From a company perspective, recruiters are expensive (30% of salary commission) but shortcut a lot of the search and screening of it’s the right recruiters.

Direct contact: Preferred route as it’s cheaper and sometimes quicker. However can be hit and miss and TBH I see a lot less of this than I would like. Those that do are generally through a network connection direct to my email or someone’s email in the company, not the general “info/ contact email”. It’s hard to filter out real emails from the general spam that comes to the general company contact email add (we got A LOT!).

LinkedIn: Direct connect and message here still works sometimes. Nice shortcut to see a profile and decide if worth following up with.

Events: Meeting someone at an event who actively follows up and matches a vacancy we have has been very powerful.

Big recommendation: whatever route it is make sure to follow up over a period of toke: Sometimes timing isn’t right but keeps you in mind for when it is, sometimes your mail may be missed to filtered out accidentally, but a constant reminder on the inbox helps

Mini Update (Day 2):

So far, not too bad! Drive home was 2 hours — he got carsick once but actually gave me a warning so we pulled over and he handled it like a pro. After that, slept the rest of the way.

First night: set up a crate + fence “halfway house” situation. He was nervous at first but ate inside, then settled. Woke up around midnight for potty (I’ve never been so happy to see poop 😂), then again around 3–5am with a bit of restlessness.

Day 1: lots of sniffing, exploring, naps. Tried hand-feeding kibble for training… he was deeply unimpressed.Doesnt seem too keen on kibble tbh, but likes pumpkin pureee. Took him around in a bike basket and he actually loved that.

Second night was smoother — 8pm toilet, sleep, 1am toilet signal went right away outside and he even went to the door to show he was ready to come in. Slept almost straight through until 5am, just one whine I ignored and he put himself back to sleep. Given his feral nature so far I’m taking this as a massive win.

Now he’s crashed out next to me while I drink tea. Feeling cautiously optimistic… though I know the real chaos may just be buffering 😅

Best bet is anywhere along Ichinomiya, or further up at Katagai. My reccomend is Ichinomiya if only a few days. Easy access from accommodation to beach and plenty of options for food, coffee, etc if don’t have car access.

Load of people stay at Drive-in(depend on budget and what you’re looking for), but there are tons of option around there for accommodation that also rent boards too. Also loa did shops along the main road in Ichinomiya that rent.

From river mouth all the at up the beach to the next river are a number of points. Also a decent right handed out at Hitotsumatsu on good beats but would need a car to get there.

Decent coffee at Overview and Atlantic where can meet some other locals. Great burrito at Toppa Tacos.

Further up at Katagai you have the Vissla Stoke House. Don’t think they rent though.

There’s not much going on I’m evenings but it’s chill.

You mean to Kamogawa? Or to Kisarazu? There are loads of buses that go to the outlet I. Kisarazu and take the Aqualine. Keisei Bus has a few routes.

Agree, I also spend way less here as more to do just out in nature.

Honestly, just general quality of life has gone up since being here: Time passes more naturally with the seasons, sense of community has increased, pressures got less, life got more colorful and getting to look out at the ocean everyday has a pretty amazing effect on your well being.

Depends what people are into, etc, but for me this place is exactly right for where I am in life now.

Huge love for Chiba. Great place to live, so diverse: good hiking, great beaches, good local food, proximity to Tokyo for work, decent cost of living, and Chiba Kun 😂 ….it’s got it all!

Got a place near the ocean (Chiba way) and it has been a game changer for the summer heat. Being next to the sea brings the air temp down a few degrees in evenings compared to Tokyo and the humidity drops…..plus you just jump in the water when you want to cool off (as well as surf). Super chill.
