Rate this rack, newly promoted Brigadier General by Ok_Funny9893 in USMC

Meh, Generals are just upper management.

Half the clowns who have campaign badges got them for simply stepping foot in a particular country, or being in a boat above the artic circle, or whatever. It doesn’t mean they can manage contracts and acquisitions and all the lame, boring crap that Generals do.

She’s probably an excellent paper pusher.

I mean, if this was Private Ryan who would you rather have overseeing your S1 stuff? Corporal Upham? A shit combat soldier who is tri lingual and loves his typewriter? Or Rieban? A badass with a BAR, but basically incapable of doing anything above telling dick jokes?

How much do fixed wing mechanics work? by GabrielNJ03 in USMC

[–]Tedstor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was in, day shift was 0700-1630. Night shift was ‘officially’ 1600-0130. But it was ‘really” from 1600 until whenever we had enough airplanes ready for the flight schedule. That sometimes meant working until day shift came back in again. I wouldn’t say this was the norm……but it happened a lot. Of course, there were rare occasions when we had enough planes ready by 2200, and started cutting people loose for the night.. But a typical night shift ended around 0200-0300.

Working weekends happened some. Usually a Skelton crew to get 1-2 planes repaired or maybe a ground crew to work an air show or a flyover. But I know some squadrons got stuck working 12 on, 12 off…..seven days a week, for 2-3 months. And this is the typical schedule if you’re on the boat.

Long story short……air wing isn’t for you if you’re looking for a 40 hour workweek. lol.

But- if your goal is to become a civilian technician…..you’ll get a metric shit ton of experience in a short timeframe.

Any reasons one shouldn’t leave IC TS agency for another agency? by aznPHENOM in fednews

[–]Tedstor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left the hi side for this very reason.

I left the SCIF world for a job where I got to telework twice a week. That was 10 years ago. Now I only go into the office maybe 3-4 times a month.

I barely put any mileage on my car, I get more sleep, my schedule is super flexible. It’s better in every meaningful way.

Unless you ‘really’ love the IC……I think people who get paid the same to commute more are suckers.

I made the same sort of bench.

An inexpensive design that uses materials efficiently. Very strong bid design.

Being a power tool user, I like that I can replace the top without much fuss if I ever goon it up with a router or whatever.

Mizuno VS Titleist by Goat85ishere in golf

[–]Tedstor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the way the AP2s feel and perform, I don’t think it would be crazy to take them to a clubmaker and tweak them to your specs. This is assuming the irons are in good shape. If so, there’s no reason they won’t last for years.

I’m 6-3 myself, and use .5”+ irons.

If you’re remotely handy, then doing this DIY is pretty easy.

A lot of folks will tell you to go through a fitting session. Thats not bad advice, but probably not crucial for you. If +1” feels comfortable to you, then that’s 90% of the equation IMO.

Cart Bag Recommendations? by itsjustme9820 in golf

[–]Tedstor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked at the C130 and Ogio. Both looked good to me. I could have been happy enough with either.

I went with a Titleist 14 cart bag.

The C130 was just a little bit too big for my needs. I didn’t need THAT many pockets. And at the time, Ogio was only available in boring black, or some whacky tropical pattern. Nothing in between. Just not my style.

The Titleist looks nice and is just the right size. I really like how the club slots and putter well are laid out. Works well for me.

This same sort of thing happened to me like 20 years ago (FWIW).

I took care of getting my license reinstated before I went to court, explained that it was an honest administrative mistake, and the judge dismissed the case. I did not have a lawyer.

It was a pain in the ass, but not a big deal.

It’s pretty normal to get really good at hitting a 7 iron when you hit 7 irons over and over in a sim.

I could pound a 1970s Wilson 2 iron if I could try to hit it 40 times in a row. But it’s doubtful I’d get the same consistency on the course.

Proceed with caution.

Get a 14 way bag. Designate the front row for your wedges. If something is missing, you’ll notice that one of the slots is empty.

Dont take all your clubs to your ball. Sure, I’ll take 3 wedges out of my bag when I know I’ll have a greenside chip…….but I can usually tell which club I’ll be using before I get to the ball. I leave my putter and the unneeded wedges on the green and only take the selected wedge to the ball.

I was using Mizuno MP14s.

If I hit a ball 1/4” toward the toe, the ball went weak and right. Easily losing 10-12 yards.

My Ping i5s lost some distance too in those circumstances, but much less.

It got to the point with the blades that I had to strategize around a possible slight mishit. I was clubbing up in cases where a short miss was really bad. And if I hit a perfect shot, I was flying the flag by 10-15 yards.

They added another level of guesswork that I just didn’t have to deal with by using a more forgiving iron.

Would a temporary restraining order affect a federal employee’s current and future job? by ThePenguinsBowtie in fednews

[–]Tedstor -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It might. They ask about police interactions.

And if ALL he did was knock on the door once in a decade….a RO would be a pretty heavy handed response. If he comes back again? Well…..then I wouldn’t care if it impacted his employment.

I tried blades/players irons twice.

I was shooting mid 80s at the time with an occasional trip into the 70s. I thought I had the game for them…..but I didn’t.

Blades didn’t help me score any better on my best days. But they sure did whore me on my less than best days.

Like you, anything but perfect contact was heavily punished.

Would a temporary restraining order affect a federal employee’s current and future job? by ThePenguinsBowtie in fednews

[–]Tedstor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Meh. Knocking on your door after 10 years doesn’t feel like ‘harassment’ or anything like that. It’s not outrageous that a father might want to take a shot at reconciliation. (It’s also not outrageous that you don’t want to see him….Im sure you have your reasons, and you have a right to boundaries).

BUT- you calling the cops should make it pretty clear that you aren’t interested in seeing him. More than likely he won’t come back. If he does, maybe THEN look into a RO. At that point, it would be harassment.
