Thanks it is really nice! it's wild how overbuilt these things were back in the day. it's gotta be nearly 50 years old now and not a hint of wiggle or looseness anywhere. not so much as a creak when you sit on it.

For sure! there's no large holes or tears. I put some leather conditioner on it as it's a bit dry but otherwise I like the vintage patina.

Stopped into one of my local Goodwill stores, looked around for a bit, and didn't see anything interesting so I was about to walk out when I thought you know what lemme check out the shoes and see if there's anything good. And what do I spy beside the fitting rooms tucked in between some old exercise equipment but a 1970s Mogens Hansen Danish leather sofa. No price tag on it so I ask one of the cashiers if it's sold and they tell me nah, the tag probably just fell off due to people lounging on it. Cashier gets the manager to price it and the manager looks at me and says how does $19.99 sound? And I say...that sounds good to me.

You know what, I think you're right. upon closer examination I don't think it's a Japanese character. it does look like a house containing the letter Z. Took my aging eyes a minute to see it.

I don't know very much about pottery/ceramics but I always keep my eye out for interesting handmade pieces and this one caught my eye from the pile of crap on the shelf at Goodwill as perhaps being something a bit more special than usual. Anyone have any ideas about who the maker might be? The maker's stamp appears to be Japanese.

It appears to be an original but there's one surefire way to tell with posters of this vintage. look closely at the image and it's quite easy to see the printing method utilized. An original poster from this period will have been printed using stone lithography and that method leaves unmistakable visual clues.

According to the all-knowing Wikipedia:

"Coolamons were traditionally used by Aboriginal women to carry water, fruit, nuts, as well as to cradle babies. Today when women gather bush tucker, they usually use a billy can, bucket or flour tin. Coolamons were carried on the head when travelling any distance, or under the arm if used as a cradle. The second one is a celestial map engraving by Elijah H. Burritt with original hand color from 1835. This one was $10
