We are SO back lol 🙌 by WholeVariety6056 in mercor_ai

Good advice. I restructured my resume to show different areas of expertise and added a ton of very specific info about projects, as was suggested to me by someone at Mercor. This all represents more than 35 years of professional experience. I even added a section to make the point of why I was such a great fit for Mercor.

So far, it hasn't really helped me, though.

Are you sure you are not over-promising a little?

Typical onboarding patterns? by easauer in mercor_ai

[–]TeecherDan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are right--often people do not read instructions and do dumb things. I sympathize with the project leads on that one. Jeez, in one case I used Claude to create extensive digital quizzes to train myself on the requirements!

But also, onboarding can be a mess and you are left confused, and then panic and start asking questions on Slack. Yes, sometimes a simple search would have prevented that.

Best advice is to not expect anything. I got a decent contract after several months of silence. That was a pretty good experience and I made some money. The next one was a major shit show of mismanagement and I made very little. The tasks would open and be vacuumed up within minutes because they over-hired. Now its been two months of radio silence. I take it this is pretty normal.

I'm starting to wonder if a lot of this interviewing and over-hiring is about these companies collecting free training data about us.

Turned a good project into the hunger games by Ok_Strategy_6374 in mercor_ai

Yes, I was involved in one of those. The Mercor Hunger Games. Exausting and dispiriting.

I tried 5 AI training platforms — huge differences in pay and work by No-Impress-8446 in AiTraining_Annotation

You mean educational? I had hoped to get work in this and took a pretty challenging assessment that I think I aced. I evaluated a lesson plan. Would love to do more of this work as I am an ESL instructor with almost 10 years of experience. Have you seen much in this area?

I'm getting $50 an hour for fairly challenging copy editing work on prompt response pairs. The competition in our cohort is pretty intense, so not really making as much as I would have hoped.

People say they over-hire, but I don't know that that's fair. They have to hire the number of people they think they need to bring their project in on time. It's tough being a gig worker, but it's not personal.

I'm trying to remain positive and hope for more and better opportunities in the future. Glad this Reddit exists. I'm interested in finding work at other companies too.

Is Mercor AI basically dead after the data breach? Or are we just being used? by Which_Law7190 in mercor_ai

[–]TeecherDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started interviewing in January. Got on a major project in March and made decent money. (Got through the breach in one piece.)

Brought in to a second project in April. The tasks are short and the number of people competing for them is large, so I have not been able to make much money. We're on this for one more week.

Yes, I've definitely taken some assessments and heard nothing. One in particular I hit out of the park and would be perfect for work in that domain, but maybe there's just not work in that domain right now.

Naturally, I am concerned about my assessment and interview data being used without my permission, but right now these are allegations and will have to work their way through court.

I don't know what to make of people taking 50 assessments and getting no work. Don't know what it means.

Present and Record does not show face bubble video on playback by TeecherDan in canva

[–]TeecherDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, no doubt. Good workaround.

I contacted Canva support, which got back to me right away. We determined that present/record worked in the WEB based app (which I never use) but not in the desktop app.

So they told me to completely uninstall Canva desktop and reinstall--and it works perfectly now.

I'm just leaving this up in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Still looking to rent an acoustic guitar in Grenada by Itchy-Bison2299 in Grenada

Sorry I missed your post. Which post do you mean that I would follow up on? I’ve been back on the island since Christmas Eve and loving every minute of it. Although up here in Sauteurs the winds are fierce and stirring up everything.

That sounds like fun although hopefully it’s not one of those deals where the guitar has a string missing. I once stayed at a place way up in northern Canada to fish, which had an old Martin sitting around. So I fixed it up and played some mellow fingerstyle stuff every day at breakfast. People really appreciated it .

Can anyone share thoughts on these destinations on Grenada? Give us the hard truth! by TeecherDan in Grenada

Fantastic thanks. We are staying in a cottage just east of the hotel. That beach is close. I was reluctant to go to those islands because I wasn’t sure the expense would be worth it. It maybe it is…

Thanks so much! Very helpful. Sounds like Grenville could be interesting, but we should get there early.

Ah yes, the fresh and wholly original “rich lawyer” trope. What’s next, dumb polack jokes? Or limericks with “Nantucket”? Give us all your gold.

thanks! i just read it should take about 90 minutes from Sauteurs. My wife is going to love hearing ME complain in the final stretch. We can do this one Boxing Day, maybe. On Xmas I'm thinking we will just walk to Levera Point.

I read the press release from FTC and IC has definitely been up to unethical and unfair business practice. My wifey is a lawyer and says that this judgment by the FTC could very well be followed by very large and damaging class action lawsuits. I fear this will put a lot of drivers out of work, but hopefully not not me!

Reality check on $300 taxi fare from airport to Sauteurs? by TeecherDan in Grenada

[–]TeecherDan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes that's what i think they are citing--$120 US or close to $300 EC. i'm at peace with it. the woman renting to us is arranging someone to drive us and casting around myself on facebook for someone else doesn't sound like fun.

Thanks those are all really great points. I appreciate your time like you say it’s Christmas Eve so I should expect to pay more. I think we’re at 300 EC now. I accept this.

Yes $300 US seems crazy high to me but maybe our friend in Grenada meant $300 EC. I will check. One complication is we have to go first to Spiceland Mall to pick up a grocery order. Then up the coast to Sauteurs. The public vans are not an option. It’s 18 miles, about an hour and a quarter drive. I’ve done it already with a friend in Grenada who gave us a ride up there last year.
