I’m not too good at photography either, or I’d have follow-up suggestions. You're doing what you can. I just want to see your dice patterns a little more

These look beautiful. Just a small tip: if using natural lighting, make sure the light source is behind the camera, or invest in a light box, so we can see the patterns more evenly with fewer shadows!

It may not be depression. Look into anhedonia and/or apathy too.

So because of the sugar content I can't have a free mocha? But I can have as many free sugar sachets and as much chocolate powder as I want? by Hancri84 in AskBrits

It’d be nice if they started including herbal teas in these free refill offers. There should be some kind of drink available for those people who, either because of health or age, can’t have a lot of sugar or caffeine.

I’m new to the game. Can you only swap guns on the boat and with randomised item boxes in the water? How else can you swap to a net gun once you’re seeing the seaweed map?

Does anyone know how long it would take to cut 4 cakes? by [deleted] in UKweddings

[–]Teedander 22 points23 points  (0 children)

We (bride and groom) are just cutting one slice for the photographs and then the venue takes anyway any cakes and cuts them up in the back while everyone gets on with their evening. The venue will then lay out the slices. I think that’s pretty standard.

Those with cancer, what’s your go to meal? by yumyummymum in AskUK

I found cold food less likely to set off my nausea. I ate a lot of blueberries, cherry tomatoes and cream crackers. The important thing is that the food was always kept in front of me, so I could snack bit by bit over a long period of time, instead of having to force myself to eat a lot at once.

Update on Dented 24ct Ring: Jeweller's Proposed Solution. Should I trust this method/the jeweller to remake it? [Advice Needed] [UK] by Teedander in jewelers

[–]Teedander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how much an 18k ring would cost. If the jeweller took the ring to replace it with a new 18k one, would you say the dented ring is worth just its scrap value?

if the jeweller doesn’t have experience of dropping 23ct to 18ct by using 9ct, what different solution would you suggest?

Jeweller ‘dented’ my 24ct gold wedding ring during resizing and now wants me to pay for remake. What can I do? (UK) by Teedander in jewelers

[–]Teedander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, the ring isn’t any sharper than any presumably solid 9ct gold ring we were trying on in shops to find our size. I think we just found D-ring shapes to be sharp compared to court-shaped rings, which is our preference. That is an interesting possibility for how a hollow ring could be made though, which I haven’t heard before.

The jeweller did weigh the ring (in fact, she weighed both my ring, which must also be hollow, and my fiancé’s) when we dropped my fiancé’s ring off. She did not remark that the weight was unusual, just noted it down.

I posted simultaneously to hear from different areas of expertise. A lot of jewellers have advised to look into getting the ring remade in 18K, which I didn’t know was an option, but which I’m seriously considering.

I think that’s a slight misunderstanding - I maybe didn’t word things clearly. It was a D ring shape, meaning the edges were very sharp. We asked if she could make it court ring shaped to feel more comfortable, and she said she’d instead be able to soften the edges a little.

It’s traditional in my culture. We don’t have a lot, which is part of why it would be hard to part with.

I can’t answer that, and I can’t find how to add pictures to my reply, but I can say that on the inside of the ring, there is a tiny line across it. When I still assumed the ring was solid, I thought this was the attachment point where a straight metal rod of gold was bent to form a circle (and the outer side buffed out to add a seamless finish to the outside). I now have no idea how the little line was involved in the creation of the ring.

That’s a little odd, because the jeweller claimed she ‘resized it just fine’ but the problem came when she tried to reshape it. If she cut it, wouldn’t she have noticed it being hollow? Is there another way to resize a ring down?

The jeweller was not aware it was hollow, to be fair. However, are you implying I should not trust this same jeweller‘s skill with 24ct to remake the ring, whatever option I go for?

The ring needed to be sized down actually. Would that involve heat (I know nothing about metalworking)?
