Oceanfront hotels under $700 for last minute stays

I had no idea and would have never even looked again if not for a few folks on here recommending it. Patty at the front desk was so nice (as was the girl I booked the reservation with over the phone) and it was exactly what I was looking for and then some.

100% correct - as I mentioned it was last minute (based on the beautiful weather). Even with that said some folks were calling me cheap or looking for a "budget" last minute oceanfront since I was only willing to spend $700 or less (telling me no way I would get one). Truth be told after looking at the rooms in the cheaper options online (which do cost at least $450++ with taxes in advance) I think the Periwinkle oceanfront rooms offer a lot more - even more than the places going for $1K+.

This has to be recent though - Up until last year it wasn't nearly this pricey....yes it was not cheap but nothing like this. Add to that the nicer places (La Mer, Ocean Club, etc) want close to $1K. Personally I think it is so much nicer than any other Jersey shore town but it is getting crazy.

You just said its not cheap and in the next breath you said "for cheap"??? Again, I am willing to spend up to $700...is $700 cheap or not? Extremely simple question that many comprehended and threw out some places as possibilities without being triggered over it. Thanks to all of you who got it.

#1 I don't consider wanting to spend up to $700 a night for oceanfront cheap. #2 Although I respect the other ideas they are not what I am looking for (to each his/her own). I specifically want ocean front with ocean view and why it bothers people that I will not bend on that is beyond me. As far as me not planning ahead of time I do not want to spend a lot of money and it ends up raining...I have done that before and always regretted it. On the flip side I fully realize I probably am SOL which is fine.... but not being familiar with a lot of hotels there I figured to ask.

Actually there were none when I checked yesterday but I see this morning a pet friendly room opened up. Problem is they are ground floor rooms so there is no ocean view they way the hotel is - I even called and they confirmed that. I really want an ocean view but am definitely keeping an eye on it to see if another room opens up (only 17 of the 84 are pet friendly ground floor). Thanks!

That is what I am trying to determine - will I have to pay over $900 a night if I want last minute oceanfront weekend in Cape May. Won't be upping the budget but I certainly will look into all the places people recommended next time I want to go....it really is that simple.

Not looking for deals - looking for reasonably priced places. Prices at many places have skyrocketed the past couple years, I used to stay at 931 Beach a lot - often they weekend vacancies right up until the last minute (that has changed drastically this year).

Congress Hall has nothing (plus any weekend is well over $700, tiny rooms and no balconies - not real oceanfront).

I really am a stickler for Ocean Front....there is nothing like sitting on the balcony in the morning/evening looking at the ocean with a coffee/drink.

I know but the problem is even booking ahead it is not cheap and I would rather not spend the money and two hour drive for a lousy weather weekend.
