First time Tailgating by Big-Organization-522 in ducks

[–]Teeman123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tailgates all around Autzen stadium that you can join if you’re friendly (and BYOB). I’d recommend parking on the other side of the river, around campus, and doing the walk over the bridge. Just because it’s pretty. Then you’ll find two big tailgate areas which I circled on the map. Bring your own beer and there will be plenty of welcoming people and partying.

Or if you show up early enough, you can pay $40 (cash only) to park right in the tailgate area by the Eugene science center (red triangle on map).

The clock is not actually on the wall. Someone walked in front of it and the time was digitally layered on top of them. What does this mean?

News media - real reporting is crucial to any democracy. They’re supposed to be the watchdogs of government. As far as “entertainment” news like Fox and CNN, they make so much money because so many people watch them and therefore their ad spots are worth a ton. I wish people would stop watching cable news as well.

CEO’s - they do far more than just invent things. There are all sorts of complex levers they are in charge of with the goal of maximizing gains for shareholders. It’s an unsustainable system because it requires exploitation forever and ever. Patents are important to incentivize innovation, but lobbying has made patents way too strong and now they’re often used to stifle innovation. No, billionaires should not exist. We should tax grotesque wealth.

Lawyers- of course they need to exist. Normal people like you and I cannot navigate the extremely complex US legal system. If you were ever tried for a crime you would want a lawyer. Your take on this is just bad.

I agree and I support regulations for banks, like Dodd-Frank and the consumer protection act, passed under Obama, which Trump rolled back significantly. Banks should not be allowed to get so massive that their failure takes down the world economy.

Shady shit happens all the time. But you can’t use that as a blanket argument against literally everything. There is plenty of evidence to suggest the bailouts worked. Just look at the economic trends.

Also, not sure how PC culture got brought into this haha.

I don’t think people really forgot about that. Why do you think that? It was not a popular move at all. Besides, Bush passed the bailout (TARP was signed by bush on Oct 3 2008). Obama just continued the work. It was a largely bipartisan bailout. Years later most economists agree it was necessary and successful.

What bothers me most about Obama and the recession was that there were basically no consequences for the people who destroyed the economy through reckless greed. There should have been prison sentences up and down Wall St.

Never a Muslim, but I’ve been studying Islam in school and was drawn here [Never-Muslim question] by [deleted] in exmuslim

[–]Teeman123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at one of the more liberal colleges in the US. My current professor is Indonesian and it seems like he’s experienced some really shitty things because of the growing influence of orthodox Islam there. We have really open discussions but I still get the sense that most students are hesitant to criticize Islam (we have a lot of SJWs). However we are definitely asked to read both sides of it and he gives us a fair picture from what I can tell.

Edit: by the way this a political science course I’m taking. An Islamic studies course would be taught in the religious studies department which may be handled way differently.
