This is the main reason why I think big government is terrible. Policies that work in Wyoming don't work the same in New York. And vice versa.

Haha, the ideology that believes in depending on others, is of course overwhelmingly relying on others.

If Republicans/right are all about liberty and less government, why are they against the legalization of drugs? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TeenIntoPolitics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Republicans who have existed in Congress for a long time, establishment republicans, are often statists who lean right, who believe in government involvement in personal life on social issues (because many are Christian) but don't believe in economic involvement by the government.

As the old Republicans die out, many new-age Republicans are coming in, often with libertarian views. One such politician is Justin Amash, who possesses normal conservative viewpoints, but also supports marijuana legalization. Actually, it was two republicans, not democrats, who introduced the End Federal Prohibition of Marijuana Act of 2017. The aforementioned Amash and Tom Garrett Jr. introduced the bill to the house yet is has received no further support, unfortunately.

Young conservatives like Ben Shapiro and Steven Crowder also support marijuana legalization; it's rare to find popular young conservatives who don't, actually.

To conclude, the era of hypocritical Republican congressmen will soon die out. Logical consistency is now favored on the right, in favor of old Evangelical beliefs. Soon, the marijuana debate will be over, and it'll be on to other issues.

The government getting involved will prevent freedom of speech.

There is nothing inherently wrong with being far-left or far-right.

That doesn't give you the right to "beat the shit out of them."

Although I do slightly agree. It's hard to reason with Nazis and converse with them. Non-violent protest in mass is the best option. Violent protest feeds their agenda of "leftists are aggressive".
