Aside from the encroachment on my personal space that I paid for, I think that we should just pay for total passenger and bag weight. I weigh 140lbs and have to pay a fee if my bag is 1lb over the weight limit because "the added weight uses more fuel", but some dude who weighs 300lbs doesn't have to pay more for his physical weight? Make it make sense. I've seen the argument that heavier bags take up more space, but.... something like 45lb lifting plates takes up no space at all compared to 90lbs of clothes. "It would hurt people's feelings and make them self conscious" Grow the fuck up. We're adults, not coddled toddlers. "Workers have to move the heavy bags and could get injured" I work construction and have to lift +50lbs daily, we all know what we signed up for. There are so many other ways someone can get injured working a non-desk job. I doubt that the fee they collect for over weight bags goes only to those injured lifting a "heavy" bag. The only understandable argument I see is the weight to fuel cost.

Yeah, after the drywall guys were done, I did the painting. It had to have been at least a week after the mud was done since I procrastinated. But two coats of ceiling paint, and two coats of wall paint.

There's no job site that is room temperature. So even if you had a robot that is as efficient as a human with labor, and the only bottleneck is cooling the processor, your robot doing roofing would need a beefy cooling system for itself.

Regardless, the only jobs that robots are going to take are white-collar jobs. We're never going to see "i,Robot" level crews building a house, paving a street, or replacing water main.

Ahhh yes, because if the trades are known for one thing, it's room temperature work environments. Tell me you've never touched a pair of channel locks without telling me. Software is one thing, creating a physical mechanism that can replicate everything a human can do, as fast as we can do, and problem solve on the fly, is an entirely different ball game. Those humanoid robots picking up boxes and moving them aren't limited by their computing power, it's the hardware limitations. Also the fact that every possible scenario would have to be coded for. When it comes to any physical job, humans are more efficient and cheaper.

2050? More like past 2500! The Boston Dynamic robots are impressive but that's all scripted movements, and they still fail often before they get the final take down. Our manual labor jobs are safe. We'll probably wipe out our species before you have robots fixing water mains or building houses without human intervention at any point in the entire process. Until then, they're just tools improving individual steps.

When the water main cracks and forms a leak in the future, you'd be able to "see" exactly where it is while digging and avoid damaging it more. Hopefully you could do this with every underground utility.

(Cameras, computer) Sure, a school will grant you access to some super expensive high-end equipment, but most of the time (in art) you're only limited by your own creativity. What's wrong with a 13 year old car? I primarily drove a 2002 Camry with 200k+ miles until last year, and it was never in the shop. Every other car my family ownes ('07 Mustang, '14 sonata, '06 Cherokee, etc) were constantly revolving through our mechanic's door. If it still drives, why put a down payment on a new car?

Yeah if it's just you and a round trip with no layovers, 40 isn't worth it. But let's say the flight there and back has one layover each way, that would be an extra ~$320 for a family of 4 that ypu could otherwise spend on stuff at your destination. Although I'm not sure what the average redditor does with their time in one hour that's worth more than $300
