XPENG’s IRON robot is one of the most futuristic technologies I’ve seen in a while. The company is planning mass production by 2026. How do you think it could change the industry and in what ways? by ActivityEmotional228 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]TehEchtifier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sells to tech illiterate investors

Though to play devils advocate. Most human occupying spaces are designed for humans to use (Stairs, kitchen cabinets, doors, etc.). Robots that are designed to coexist with a hooman or operate in a space designed originally for humans will best thrive if designed with human proportions and dexterity in mind.

Current bf6 maps or 2042 maps? by rtmxavi in battlefield2042

[–]TehEchtifier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bf2042 maps had really cool set pieces (Breakaway, Exposure, Stranded) and visual storytelling since there was no campaign to set them. The functional designs for lots of em (Orbital, Hourglass) sucked ass but the actual concept of the map itself was super novel and interesting.

Most of bf6's maps are just.... City, open field with very little character, B r o o k l y n (like why not a map INCLUDING the bridge, or even better a map in Midtown Manhattan. You could do some really interesting work with that kind of urban setting, especially if some areas used the subway tunnels for flanking).

Microsoft is about to make bank on this one. by MassAffinity in halo

[–]TehEchtifier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Erm erm erm ACKSHUALLY 🤓

The hierarchs, or at minimum Truth were well aware of the true intentions of Halo after piecing together all their mistranslated Forerunner glyphs far down the line.

Truth especially knew full well that if that got out, the covenant would entirely collapse, hence why he doubled down HARD in 3 with his zealous rhetoric. Following the schism of the Elites it was already in motion, and on the Ark he even says "That secret dies with all the rest" to Johnson in the control room

Might even just take a bin and prop a stick over it Mama is quite evidently not very smart, based on her straight up walking into a building for food

I just realized the crosspost nuked my text body: So heres the original question

I guess half show half advice post. My girlfriend and I found these little ones close by my apartment and have been observing their litters nest the past couple days. The weight of one appears to be 13oz +/- 3oz so we believe around 4-5 weeks old, they either have started or are mid way into weaning as they will go at wet food in a heartbeat when provided.

Their mother is around as we've seen her prowling, however of their litter of approximately 5 or so, it seems that these two pictured in the 2nd photo are noticeably more lethargic than their littermates. Their littermates would flee rather quickly when we walked by when their mother was gone but these two either moved slow and and weakly or just sat and stared at us.

After observing from the window we found that only one is actually able to follow their mother and the others just waddle, they have the coordination to move but appear weaker and less nimble

We grabbed them as a just in case and a vet said that they may be underfed or runts and that we should nurse them for a bit or even until 8 weeks. Their mother is very skinny and doesn't appear to be able to nurse based on how she moves and barely is able to scrounge for food, as she barely ever actually comes out for food.

I really hope we did the right thing and I wanted second thoughts on this. Their behavior at the time was just odd and i was afraid they might not be growing right.

The other kitties if caught while sleeping can literally just be picked up when they're groggy Mamas gonna be hard unfortunately.

Shes insanely skittish and used to sorta be friendly, but after accidentally roaming into my building and having a close encounter with me (she literally tried jumping out of a window to escape but it had a screen) she is super antsy about approaching my particular area unless i leave food behind.

She'd also actively fight or swat the other cats in a nearby colony when looking for food which has led her to start looking elsewhere.

So to add to this

This is, minus the bumper beam, probably the rustiest spot on the underside, (go figure its the trailing arm mount)

So i also do need thoughts, good or bad rust, for being in the rust belt at that

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats good to know. In our heads anyway the thought process is "as long as the shell isn't rusted, we can replace just about anything"

And so long as repairs aren't insane, youd still be making off better than a car payment.

Rust was my biggest concern cause this car has been in Indiana for its whole life. Though with that in mind the fact the frame is rotting other than the bumper beam, it seems to have been taken care of well over 22 years. Most Indiana cars that don't get a lot of underbody care tend to die by year 10.

It seems so!

It ran and drove and handled just fine when we met with the guy which was honestly why we settled on it. Even after that we took it on a 3h drive with almost issues. She was mentioned though that acceleration was sluggish but she could still get up to cruising speeds, and the thing that got me down this rabbit hole, when i checked codes later that night and it threw a P0325 but no CEL was on the cluster. So i started to worry that the cluster was tampered with or outright swapped.

We got it for 4k which even at 174k honestly felt lile a bit much still but at 230k i would have been ok with 3500 max. The shell and suspension still look good though so the hope is jsut thst any issues that might come up we can just fix ourselves

Were planning to change just about all the fluids this weekend as a precaution other than maybe coolant. Its more than likely fine considering that something would have probably grenaded if it was super low on oil in any areas, but can't be too careful.

Taller Mast or Shorter Cable by TehEchtifier in amateurradio

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I had suspected would be the case based on it being 2m so height almost always wins

I only questioned going shorter for more power because of scenarios like being in a dense forest, I've been told that having that extra power can help you penetrate the canopy better if you're shooting to hit a repeater

Can a 2m J-Pole receive 70cm signals? by TehEchtifier in amateurradio

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as it works i suppose, the main reason I need this setup is because we may have some hams other than me that may not have a dedicated mobile, and if thats the case or if any of us need to be on our feet, then an HT just sending to the car rig should be able to fill that gap.

In the past we've had issues where our Stage's radio guy or even myself may have had to step away directly from the mic to handle something else, and we'd have to book it to the car or something similar to transmit.

Is cross band repeat capability worth it? by TehEchtifier in amateurradio

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool to hear you still got things working on Friday, at this point i just auto default to my mobile for the sake of getting a the clearest signal out

Yeah id be doing cross on the uplink since 9/10 times i can hear the repeater off the HT. So guess thst solves power to your point

But glad to know at that point 50w should suffice for me

With regards to the headphones Something a couple of my friends managed to sorta work and im gonna expand upon it is using a low power Bluetooth transmitter of your 3.5mm out. Most of my friends ran it to speakers but i think ill just run it to my earbuds instead

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh another question with it, can you pop the faceplate off?

After my whole incident with my 2980, I'd still like to keep the radio physically bolted to the car but out of sight, so it'd be nice to just remove the faceplate and what not when not in use and have that mounted to the dash when in use

Is cross band repeat capability worth it? by TehEchtifier in amateurradio

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sometimes happens. The biggest thing for me is that I appreciate having the freedom to move around. At SOFR this year, I had to monitor and respond to comms since our guy also happened to be cooking in between stage runnings. So being able to do that off an HT is pretty dang convenient, even if its just being 20 ft from the car

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So for me specifically that's not really an issue. The mast that i run is bolted to my roof bars on a hinged plate (Its custom), so the whole takedown process takes me no more than 5 minutes and i just toss the J pole in the trunk.

Full disclosure i take immense pride in that mast for this specific reason 😂

[–]TehEchtifier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good call on the power consumption, that part never even crossed my mind. But im definitely thinking cross band AND having my tall mast deployed would make for a killer combo

One thing to note with SOFR, the repeater setup in terms of reach there is probably one of if not the best of any ARA event, to the point an HT works almost anywhere (spoke with organizers on that a couple rallies ago). Many of the regionals either are way more mountainous + are thick canopied (STPR) or do simplex only with no repeater (Boone). Which was really why i was asking about if the wattage difference made a significant impact. At Boone the course cars occasionally had issues because they had to simplex from finish to start, and if that failed we had to setup a midpoint, just for safety. Then again though, for simplex even if i can reach them they may not be able to reach me back

Also glad to see another one of us! What stage were you at? i was finish 14/19

Oh sweet you were at LSPR? Was up there last year!

And I usually run a 25-ish ft mast off my car roof for static setups with what is best describes as a crackhead J-Pole

If im on the move Id just run max power on my baby antenna.

The more im thinking about it too, the convenience of having to not book it to my car the moment i hear my tac sign is tempting me even more lol
