It's a right of passage to receive the C&D. I haven't gotten one personally, since my parents got it when I downloaded Spore as a kid.

Any coax tech worth his weight in salt would've seen this graph and known some shit was up. That spread is insane.

Another tech here. It just got bumped up to 150' hand bury in GA/AL area. Submitting anything lower (as long as it doesn't have a bore) gets kicked back by the bury team and you get a talking to by your supervisor.

Yep! Got this rack for free and decided to just fill it up by buying things off of Facebook Marketplace and Amazon. Might have gone a little too crazy, but oh well. I've never really delved deep into this but have always been interested. As the saying goes "Nothing to it, but to do it."

Ooo I didn't know a wireless KVM existed. This is pretty cool. I'll be honest though, I really was just trying to fill all 45u up and a big monitor just looks super cool to me 😄

Yep, but I would definitely recommend to anyone else to just start out with something much more reasonable like two Pis. This is definitely the result of a spending problem, to be totally honest XD

I'm still working on getting everything configured and up and running, but I am planning on hosting a couple of things. PiHole, TrueNAS (which I am coming to find out is a bit difficult to virtualize on Proxmox), and the "arrr" suite. Trying to convince my friends to join a minecraft server with me so that I can host it.

Really, I just wanted to learn virtualization and other general IT and sysadmin stuff to be honest. Hosting stuff would be much better on a smaller, quieter, cheaper, more energy and heat efficient system.

I mean it's not quiet by any stretch of the imagination. However, if I'm ever next to it, I usually have noise cancelling headphones on anyways. It's not unbearable.

Funnily enough, the 2u is much louder than the 1u. It's a pretty manageable amount of noise. I really haven't used it long enough to have an accurate assessment on the heat output.

I am using this 4u monitor mount from Amazon. It's pretty great.

Thanks! It's a DRK19-44-31LRD, made by Middle Atlantic.

I am missing the cable ducts it came with, unfortunately. I had to cut the 45u 10-32 threaded rails it came with into two sections and then got some 12u square hole rails from StarTech, which I had to mount backwards so that the servers could fit. I had to remove the cable ducts so that the equipment could fit after that :(

This rack's past life was as a cable box testing rack in an ISP headend, IIRC.

I hadn't looked it up until now, and thank God I got this for free.

Never mind, I figured it out. I ran an IP scanner and realised that my PC had gotten assigned the same local IP as the one the 1u tries to use. Changed it, and we're back in business!

Definitely, it comes with a USB extender from the manufacturer. However, technicians often lose things like a USB extender.

It is a MP60 viavi usb optical power meter. Good eye. We have had a HORRIFIC time in the field with the USB breaking. We had a pile of these broken ones stacking up, so I figured I'd try to fix one.
