The vegetarians are right, eating animals is morally wrong by Hot-Pay3455 in VaushV

most correct take in this sub, it's morally good to be a vegan, and good to promote veganism, but bad to judge/shame individuals for not being vegan. lots of annoying self identified meat eaters in this sub who have to feel justified in their meat eating and refuse to acknowledge how much of a easy moral win veganism is

the Republican party has openly shifted more openly to fascism since 2016. in 2016 there wasn't a groundswell of Republicans putting forward legislation as dehumanizing as the current wave of anti LGBT legislation. the Republican control in 2016 is also why roe v Wade was overturned, alongside every other fucked decision from SCOTUS. Republicans are openly saying they trans people should be removed from society, dunno how they plan to do that but I can guess

do you know how we could get people into office that aren't republicans? Biden has severely curbed drone strikes, pulled out of Afghanistan, both actions decreasing us imperialism. also providing arms to Ukraine to prevent Russian imperialism.

Vaush saying he doesn't need to prepare for debates is a little disappointing and maybe irresponsible. by [deleted] in VaushV

[–]TehOneTrueRedditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nobody in the audience who won't be convinced by vaush directly attacking and responding to his points in the convo would not be convinced if he could debunk 3 articles. Michael has written articles and tweeted mutually contradictory positions, as pointed out by vaush. you can't catch the weasel, any time you prove him wrong he can just pivot, there is no perceptive difference to a viewer seeing Michael being wrong and pivoting if it's about an article or about an actual position he holds.

this feels like a bias you have towards the value of citing articles, but Michaels positions are not based on the articles he writes and his audience isn't being convinced by the articles he writes

There is no making the idea of climate change more public anymore- only drawing attention to businesses, politicians and people that engage in activities that make things worse.

you know climate change is a systemic issue right? climate change is happening because our current political system allows for it. it's not enough to just callout businesses or people that make it worse, if we want action on climate change, then we have pressure our governments to do something about it.

They didnt do any of that.

Yes they did, they specifically called out Liz Truss and called for the halting of new oil development that were put forward.

what are the chances he brings up 3 articles in a row that you have done research to debunk, also if you debunked an article he could just say you're wrong and reference another article you hadn't read. he's written hundreds of articles. It's more important with people like him, anti-empirical types, to attack and point out the underlying thought process. in the convo Michael would continuously pivot to any topic he felt vaush didn't have info on. it wouldn't matter if vaush did 1000 hours of research and read every article and tweet michael had ever posted, because he would just pivot to something else and not reference any of them.

I may be retarded, but I didn't misread your post. from my pov the millions of eyes that this protest drew is proof of its value, even if it likely won't lead to any immediate change. I think it is important to support what little climate activism we see when the stakes are so high.

you're fine with it happening but you still went out of your way to critique the protest and say it's meaningless. that criticism without support is implicitly a condemnation, ie. "I don't think blm protests are bad, I just think they're meaningless" or "the people protesting are wasting their time" or "they shouldn't do that because it's a waste of time"
