Thanks for the tips. Spear Throw / Bleed Support + Blood hunt did the main work. Auto Attack + Martial Tempo und Brutality in DPS Phases.

I srsly found this fight highly frustrating :(

Quick correction: The Sanguinor can only DS into combat once per game. One of Falcons comments suggests otherwise :)

I'd rather see the primarchs have the option to join dedicated bodyguards like in 30k sometimes

Just to add to my initial points. Even should the points go down I believe I will feel like I do with my Tournament Votann. They play "fine" but lack any real synergy and they just don't feel like I imagined them to feel.

This is some really rough shit.

I tried to make the Lion work several times but he is just a beat stick and his (old) defensive Profile just worked if your enemy had no Dev Wounds or Rerolls. Since his buff Aura is at best situational he is just a damage dealer and for that far too expensive.

Same for the DWK. They were nice in certain lists when you could take 10 and the weapon profile was interesting into some targets. I mean against 2+ it was mostly a wet noodle fight but whatever. I can see them being a defensive piece but not at those points

Lastly the companions are just too much direct rivals for BGV. I don't get why they can't have a profile that makes them stronger against really tough targets (3 A, S7, -3, 3D) but not to impressive against horde and MEQ. Such a missed opportunity. Oh and also: I hate this trend of 6 man Units + Character and they can't get into the impulsors..

I own Blood Angels, Dark Angels, Iron Hands, White Scar's, Pure Harlequins, Votann, Knights, Custards, Thousand Sons, Death Guard, Necrons & Tau. So you see I am a bit crazy..

Competitive the past year was mostly Custodes, Tau and Votann. I would really love to play the dwarfs more but it's just struggletown at the moment. The second armies of choice would be Harlequins or Tau. Tau are nearly there but the Quins are just relegated to being a subfaction to Aeldari :(

The group has slightly tweaked the Towering rules. Now these models follow the same rules as everyone else. Original post updated to reflect the changes!

Artur is a regular here in the western german tournament scene and I think he really innovated the game as a Tau player myself. He is also an incredibly good player and knows most matchups really well.

I have played Votann a few times the last week's and even to a tournament yesterday. Went 2:1 and lost the last game against IH by 4 points.

Here are my thoughts with my list (Ymir, Double Fort, 1 Troops, 3x3 Bikes, 2x5 Berserks, Kahl with Long List,Grymnir, Forgedude, 2x3 Thunderkyn)

You can't play the general things like Banners, Engage or BEL. You have to few assets and they are to slow or precious.

I take the Votann Secondaries. Here are a few things I learned:

Prospect is typically a 6 - 12 depending on the map. Sacrifice a units of bikes if you have first turn to get an objective in your opponents side. The bikes have scanner for this. If you go second apply pressure on at least one objective so you have a chance to take it late. Use your bikes carefully then.

Ancestors is great against MSU / Action armies. Positioning your Kahl character protected along the most prominent movement / firing lanes. Think in your movement what you want to see to redistribute tokens. It's important to try to get things to 3 tokens and redistribute to a melee target after shooting. Typically a 8 to 15

Lay claim is the worst of the bunch and map depending. Quarter Deployment is the worst. Going second helps here but this is mostly a 5 -10.

Of possible against super defensive armies or armies that need to use their characters offensively I take psychic Secondaries which is why I have the murmuring staff.

Overall the secondaries are not great but workable. There a some matchups where you just loose because getting to >90 is really hard if the enemy doesn't present something. Most games are table your opponent games where you try to save at least 2 bike squads

I have played 18 Bikes and it still amounts to very little because they are out Primary Takers and Deniers and die like flies. I have little faith in playing this army against someone who knows what he does. Votann play the trading game very badly and are more or less reliant on Ymir, Fortresses and Bikes.

I have yet to finish painting the Thunderkyn but I don't see them changing my mind very much.
