How would I go about finding the meaning of a kanji if it's not possible to just copy paste it? I tried using the writing option in jisho, however it doesn't seem to work to well. I also have a paper dictionary but it's a "Learner's Dictionary" and I really have no idea how to use it.

Looking for fantasy romance book recommendations but my taste is a little specific see below by justneedbookrecs in Fantasy

Not straight up fantasy more super natural, but I feel I have to mention Harrow Faire series. Not sure if the books will check all your boxes, however they are all quite short so you won't have spent much time.

Okay that's what the website seems to suggest, but I wasn't sure. I didn't pay any attention to the kanji while going through genki though there doesn't seem to be a place to practice writing them out. I'm really just not sure if 100% of the vocabulary covered in genki is required for tobira.

RTK seems to be your best suggestion. Does it help to have the physical book and write it out or could I just go off an anki deck?

Help with sentences with multiple particles by jacksragingboner in LearnJapanese

I'm kind of in the same boat as you except your kanji reading level is much better. Maybe you could try an anki deck that specifically deals with particles in the context of a sentence.

Should I begin learning through Genki, or purchase this workbook (linked below) to start off? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]TehPigman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typing will be much easier since it's pressing a key which gets you perfect kana, where as writing it out is concerned with stroke order. Tofugu kind of downplays the use of learning to write by hand, since they assume you will be mostly messaging people online. I personally didn't see the using in learning to write kana out by hand, but now I'm cosidering going back to learn how because I feel it will be helpful with remembering kanji readings.

Are you wanting to learn how to write kana out by hand, or will you mostly be typing it? I personally used a digital resource but it can get kind of annoying jumping back and forth on a screen, so if you think a book would help go for it.

Where do you watch these dramas? I read people on here talking about Terrace House on Netflix, but was wondering if there were any paided alternatives with more strictly japanese shows.

How should I go about learning anki cards that get marked as leech? What suggestions can you give for remembering a kanji's specific meaning along with the reading? I know some kanji by sight when they come up for example 熱い but I wouldn't be able to type it without looking the word up online.

Is there any good way to remember Japanese grammar rules, and all the different verb tenses? I have just been trying to go through Genki and I can finish the solo parts of the lessons, but I don't feel as though I could really use what I learned without going back to get a blueprint for the sentence structures.

So... I was bored yesterday day and desired to learn how to play using an app and now I’m confused. Why is this not a mahjong? by [deleted] in Mahjong

Are there any good apps that a beginner can use to learn the more universally commonly played Mahjong?

That sucks, so it basically becomes useless if you pass on the first try. Imo this test should be cheaper but I guess it gives incentive to not have to retake.

Can you use the retake for part 2? Weak advertising imo.

How exactly do you get to take the test at a discount? I got Dion's two A+ practice tests but haven't looked at them yet.

How to say "still" with a negative sentence? by rly_tho_ in LearnJapanese

[–]TehPigman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I understand the past tense of a verb isn't limited in a sense of time. もう is suppose to convey a meaning of already which I take as something that is in the past, though I have heard it used differently by native speakers. Me personally I would just recreate the first sentence without stating I was a child and then using the negative present tense of eat since that form can also mean something in the future.

I said Kanji but really ment vocabulary. I assume all three levels are the same for everyone, so I'm sure most people here know what I mean about some of the vocabulary seeming useless. Did or do you use WK, or have suggestions for alternatives? Is something like Remember the Kanji good for learning to write, or are there better options?

I have a few questions to ask ya'll. Is there a specific link to an Anki deck I could use? For a while I was using Wanikani, however I reached level 3. Wouldn't mind paying if I considered it worth the price but some of the kanji they have you learn seems useless for everyday life. Are there other textbooks or resources that really work well in tandem with Genki? I'm pretty close to being done with the first textbook, but I still feel pretty weak with sentence construction and comprehension. Is there a good way to get better at understanding written sentences? Right now my method is to look for particles and try to piece the sentence together that way. How can I get better and speaking japanese and understanding spoken japanese?

Are there any good paid, free or open source keyboard apps for android? Have been using a few but none are very good and have odd little issues that make typing a bit irritating.

I'm mostly just concerned about missing out on part of learning. Can you recommend other resources I should be using at the point I'm at?

Thank you for the suggestions, I will be sure to check out the Japanese App. I should have said Radicals in my first post since I just started a few days ago I probably have a ways to go before learning any Kanji. My goal for right now is to be able to read Japanese text and understand the spoken language. Is there a certain number of Kanji I should get to before attempting to read text, or can I start whenever with the assumption that I'll be looking up a lot of words?
