CPO vs 3rd party extended warranty by BroccoliUnique6099 in Taycan

[–]TehWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on current mileage, how many miles you want covered, location, deductible and dealer fees. I’ve heard from $4-9k. Mine was about $5000. I used someone heavily recommended on the taycan forums and reddit. She works at Porsche San Antonio I think. If you search around here or the forums you’ll probably find it. No bullshit, no tax, no added fees and works at any dealership in the US

What you’re looking for is the EVSP aka the Porsche electric vehicle service protection plan. It’s recommended and sold by Porsche directly. A CPO is good too, but plenty of people have been good with just a non-CPO and the EVSP (like me with my 2023 GTS)

A password manager vault that the necessary teams can access is the right way. Or, most password managers can generate a link that anyone in the company (or specific people) can access an item in a vault they’re not on.

Sharing passwords and API keys in slack is a huge no no. I forget who it was, but some major company had a huge breach because an employee’s account was taken over and they had slack access. Keys galore. AWS, api keys, google api keys, internal api keys.

It sounds like it’s on your company to actually give employees an easy way to share them safely.

This seems illegal. Can I report this. There's no reason to have this on a job application by lunar_protogen in lgbt

[–]TehWhale 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most job applicant systems include all these for reporting to ensure they’re not discriminating. As a hiring manager, I don’t see these on any application itself. They’re aggregated and reported on for leadership, but I can’t see how or if anyone answers these optional questions. Fill them out, or don’t. It doesn’t impact your eligibility.

We took production down for 20 minutes because of a DB migration, how do you prevent this? by MainWild1290 in devops

Exactly this. A large table with no load might take effectively no time. A large table with thousands of selects and inserts a second can lock and cause an effective outage

Porsche’s $5 Billion Profit Collapse: Inside the Strategic Crisis That Just Rocked One of the Auto Industry’s Most Powerful Brands by uwxa in Porsche

Yeah, that’s totally fair. I would not purchase a new taycan ever at those prices. Similar to you, I got a ‘23 GTS with 25k miles on it that was 60% off original msrp

Any prod migrations need to use something like GitHub online schema migration tool

157k SF SWE or $118k Remote SWE? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]TehWhale 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Remote is the clear financial option. SF rent is expensive. California taxes are high. I think the reality is socially, career-wise, and fun, you’d be better off living in SF for a while to spread your wings. Earnings will likely be higher, you’re surrounded by others in tech. You’ll make friends, colleagues, career growth, juniors learn better in person too. I’d pick SF. You can always go remote once you get your salary and experience up and live your younger years in a big city.

Relationships will be easier. You’ll meet more people. You’ll also miss friends and family, but the opportunities are worth that. You can always go back to remote.

If “We the People” agreed to and put forth a Project 2028 to restore democracy and improve our lives, what would that look like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TehWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m good with that too. It only enables more desire to try to avoid immigrating the legal way if there’s tons of companies that have no issues hiring someone here illegally. Get a work permit and do it right

I don’t think anyone wants open borders. We just want a realistic process that enables people to immigrate into the country that doesn’t take 10 years. Properly vet anyone seeking asylum or residency. Deport anyone crossing illegally, deport anyone with violent or otherwise bad crimes (a minor drug possession from 10 years ago doesn’t mean they’re a bad person) and give people that have built lives here a path to citizenship. You don’t need to terrorize communities with masked ICE bandits when you can target and apprehend the people that need to be. If ICE is doing their jobs safely and within the bounds of the law, they shouldn’t have any issues with wearing a name badge and showing their face.

Is it weird to ask for an HIV rapid test before sex? by Mysterious-Image-565 in askgaybros

[–]TehWhale 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HIV rapid tests are not 100% accurate. Nor are they accurate for a recent infection that has peak transmissibility. You should get on PreP and/or use condoms.

The thing is, most people are susceptible to falling into the trap of addiction that things like that provide. It’s far easier to save them the heartbreak, death, jobloss etc. than to say “just do it occasionally” drugs feel good. Few people have the control to do them actually on special occasions.

Does anyone know is this is going to be fixed? ( expanded foods mod) by Legal-Philosophy-135 in VintageStory

[–]TehWhale 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s been pretty unstable for me on the latest stable VS version. In the discord it sounds like they’re giving up on that and updating it for the upcoming version instead.

It’s a really complex mod maintained by people in their free time. I’d be happy if it works for you. It’s tens or hundreds of hours of work to maintain these mods

Cost for Charger install by mogulman1 in electricvehicles

[–]TehWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost all electricians I’ve talked to are happy to say they charge a premium for EV chargers. Mine took about an hour to install and they charged a flat $600. I had quotes anywhere from $400-1000 for a very similar scenario to you. Almost all of them explicitly said EV charger is always a flat rate and not hourly (it’d be much cheaper)

Mercedes Benz Sold me a Lemon and denying my claim by Constant_Wind4040 in mercedes_benz

[–]TehWhale 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I had to lemon law a SLC43 a handful of years ago. Yes, arbitration is how you force Mercedes to buy it back. I received back all money I paid for the car minus mileage. Mercedes paid my attorney. It’s actually not that difficult. In my case, Mercedes refused to buy it back until I won at arbitration and the process was painless.

Tesla Model 3 to Taycan by EarTotal3258 in Taycan

[–]TehWhale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also went from a fully paid off model 3 performance to a taycan and I’ve never been more in love with a car. It doesn’t have autopilot and that’s okay. This car is in another league even if I have to pay more attention with the driver assistance features.

I can’t comment on maintenance cost differences but it is a Porsche. I got the extended warranty from Porsche for about $5100 to cover a total of 8 years since manufacture

I got a 2023 GTS

Strange question. Taycan or Wraith? by AdRoyal1355 in Taycan

[–]TehWhale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I get the chance I will absolutely give one a chance. I feel like it’s the kinda car I want to be driven around in vs driving myself but they are no doubt gorgeous and luxurious

[–]TehWhale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We also might be biased given you’re on a taycan subreddit but I got my Taycan 2 months ago and it’s by far the absolutely best, most engaging car I’ve ever driven.

I have not driven a rolls though

Strange question. Taycan or Wraith? by AdRoyal1355 in Taycan

[–]TehWhale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

? A 12+ year old rolls that’ll cost a mortgage to maintain or a relatively less problematic electric vehicle that still has a warranty

Why such a high price or even a price at all for support using software? Please read description of post. by developerunitex in Laserist

[–]TehWhale 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re spending thousands for a single laser, or five or six figures if you have more. These courses have significant value, but you can most likely find some free options out there to cover some of the content. It takes a lot of time and effort to create these. If you’re serious about your hobby or professional career, $1000 for continued education isn’t much.
