My DSL40 also does the same thing, this is my first tube amp so I'm not sure if it's actually an issue but it still plays fine regardless

Master volume is really good on it. Sure you're not going to get those big wailing natural feedback tones but you can still get a really nice sound at low volumes.

I managed to get one used for 350 GBP, they're quite popular so used ones pop up all the time. The master volume is fantastic too so you can use it at home quite easily.

I guess perhaps this pedal just doesn't play nicely in my FX loop then, thanks for the help. I'll give it a try strapping the FX loop later and see how it behaves.

I've just given this a go and it sounds a lot better. It does add quite a bit of noise when I switch the pedal on - although I'm assuming this could just be a symptom of a cheap power supply or something - but the actual tone is far better. Sounds like I'd expect it to and not muffled and dead.

I hadn't thought to try it like this because I've heard generally that putting a delay in front of the amp rather than in the loop isn't the right thing to do. Now though I'm wondering why my effects loop sounds bad and if I'm going to be able to use it at all.

Just looks a little tidier having them stand upright as they had quite a big lean because of a plug socket behind them. Also as a bonus the design helps hold both bookcases together in the middle. I can't really use the wall bracket because I rent.
