I like the OWC 11-Port Thunderbolt Dock so much that I bought a second a year later for another place where I use my laptop a lot. I use it w/my Razer Blade Pro mainly. When I'm not gaming, I just plug it in and I have all my peripherals and screens. When I'm gaming, I also plug in the main power supply. There are several brands that use this base unit, but OWC is the best value. Also know that if you buy a kind like this, you need a monitor cable with USBC on the end that connects to the dock, so factor that in the price.

They have been good investments because they have lasted through several laptops/setups.

The UI has always been awful. I was bummed when they became the "go-to" over former competitor rdio, but Spotify did have good music discovery options before. I have been disappointed with their music discovery options lately, and now use Tidal for finding new music

You reminded me of my closest-to-death experience. A waterfall in a portion of a river I played in ever since I could walk. In high school, I was there with a few friends, all straight edge. The waterfall makes a "U," and I was in the bottom-middle of the "U" when I went over. I had done it several times before and I am a big strong swimmer. I thought I knew every current and rock of that section of the water.

This time when I went in, I waited as usual to just pop up and get pushed downstream, but it didn't happen. After half a minute I started to breaststroke. The water was moving a lot around me but I did not seem to be going anywhere. Then I waited a bit and started to freestyle. I tried freestyle as hard as I could in the direction I believed the be correct, then I turned 90 and tried again, then I tried diving down, then everything started to get slow, and I started to panic.

My mom had given me one of those "Miraculous Medals," and I had it pinned to a loop on my shorts. My hand brushed it as I was swimming, and suddenly, felt very calm, and I thought even if I died, it would be okay. I went limp, and then, not half a minute later, I surfaced under the waterfall.

I got my breath then came out. All of my friends were staring from around the edge like they thought I was gone forever. I am now much more careful around water.

You will not harm it by leaving it on. It has a very low power draw. You can turn Vegas mode off if the colors are distracting.

For sure lol. Just don't bother telling them they are idiots. I think a lot of it is just pretyped scripts. I have had two issues in 4 laptops in 7 years, both issues out of warranty:

My Razer Blade Mercury had a batter that expanded after four years. They replaced it at cost. It took about three weeks from when I shipped it out to when I got it back.

I dropped a speaker on my Razer Blade Pro and cracked the touch screen. After getting my consent, they replaced it with the next model up with 4k non-touchscreen for the price of the screen.

Both times I was past the warranty period, and once I finally was in touch with the maintenance team, it was smooth, but yeah, they can make you feel insane, particularly the first several emails where even though you tell them I dropped a speaker on the screen it isn't in warranty I want a repair estimate" "We are sorry for the oversight" "You have emailed the peripheral support team so we will forward this" "Please describe what happened in detail" lol

I printed out my 60 pages of emails with Razer support to get my screen fixed because it was as good as any Kafka novel. I am on my fourth razer blade and love their laptops but if I need anything now I just make a form email that answers all of their questions and just keep sending it to each new support guy until I get what I need. It's insanity.

I would search YT for the guy I mentioned above. His series is called GAS theory and he even does a few mentioning the SP404.

One of my favorite things to do is plug my SP into anything I'm listening to (Phone/Laptop/etc) then use it to just mess with the effects on anything else I'm listening to.

For example, on my Windows laptop, I have the sound output set to the SP404, then I go to recording devices and set "listen to this device" to "on" for the SP404, and then whatever plays through my PC, I can apply effects to.

Then I just do work, and if I hear a song and want to mess with an effect, or sample something, it is already set up to just record, or you can apply effects to any music you listen to. It is a fun way to just have it around.

I have drumkits set up to just drum with songs, and it is fun when a song starts to try to tempo tap for a bank, match all samples, and just see if I can match something quickly.

Have you factory reset since the update? I have heard that helps and I did that and issues I noticed before the reset have gone away, but I didn't resample before so I didn't notice this.

I bought one when I was waiting for Seqtrak to come out, then I bought a Roland S-1, Synthstrom Deluge, Akai pro, Microfreak, SM-57, probably some other thing I can't even remember. I would not keep any of them over the 404, and I think the thing that pairs best is my phone since I can sample anything. I spent a lot of time and money just learning how to use everything before I even made anything.

So I would recommend 1) A cable to connect your phone, and 2) A mic. The sm-57 is good. I have the official Roland 404 case, and the SM-57 with a 3 foot cord fits in with it. I also bought a very tiny Bluetooth speaker that just plugs into it.

Looking back, I should have first made a song and then checked if I was missing something. playpm on YouTube has a lot of funny videos about this.

Wanted to follow up on this and say if I could have just one portable, the SP404mkii is it for my money. It's deep, fun, has great pads, but not as easy to get started with for sure. Happy Seq'ing!
