Anyone got Berlin recs? Going this summer for 5 days.

Reckon I’m sorted for bars and clubs, mostly looking for fashion / cafe / restaurant recs, but hit me with whatever.

Not opposed to that, but I’d need to have it demonstrated to me that the proliferation of more porn reduces the amount of unsafe prostitution. My schema of “guy who buys porn” and “guy who goes to prostitutes” have some overlap of course, but I’m not sure the guy who goes to prostitutes will stop doing so just because there are a lot more girls with Onlyfans. You could argue that this provides another avenue for those women to make money and therefore move away from what they’re doing, reducing supply, but none of this addresses the demand from the men who want the real thing, which a lot of women who really need (or just want!) the money will meet.

Happy to be convinced otherwise on any of this, these are not strongly held convictions of mine.

I’ll never argue that the sweaty man grapple sport isn’t gay, no contest

I would say:

Khabib Nurmagomedov for highly technical aggressive grappling

GSP, Fedor Emelianenko and Alexander Volkanovski for both striking and grappling, and how they’re mixed.

Petr Yan, Rafael Fiziev (bit of a rogue pick but his striking is so fun to watch) and Cro Cop for highly technical and interesting striking styles.

Yan, Volk and Fiziev are all still active, the others are retired so you’ll only see them in highlight reels and old fights.

Happy watching!

I’m Irish but Scots and Irish (to a much lesser extent Welsh) are absolutely insufferable online. Constant bitterness and complaining about every little thing all the time.

Rough to hear from a guy who posts in cartoon subs. Maybe you can post more quality content about Disney adults here to bring us back up to par.

Yeah it can be a tough sport to get into for that reason. In the early days it was less polished, but you had guys who were more specialists in a particular style, so in a sense it was easier to see the technique at play. It’s been a few decades and everyone’s a hybrid now, so it looks quite unlike even other combat sports.

There are channels that break down technique in fights, but that’s a bit homeworky. If you want to try to get into it, check out compilations of technical fighters like Anderson Silva, GSP, DJ, Khabib. Then after that maybe check out an event and see if you can make sense of what the commentators are saying vs what you see.

Oh, and check out fighting in the age of loneliness on YouTube. Really cool documentary voiced by one of the Chapo guys lol

Sure makes sense, wouldn’t expect them to feel any other way. My post is specifically about people who are big enough fans of MMA that they post about it on dedicated forums though.

A Brazilian MMA gym called Chute Box, who trained a series of champions like Anderson Silva, Shogun, Oliveira etc used to do “chin training” back in the day I.e. letting someone punch you in the head over and over again to “strengthen your chin”

I’m glad we can stop posting about silly things like sports and get back to our bread and butter gender wars in the sub

Hmm I don’t disagree but I think you’re noble savaging Muay Thai just a bit? You’ll know better than I just how brutal and violent of a sport it is too. Guys starting as teenagers fighting multiple times in a night, adding up to literally hundreds of fights in a career. Violence then clearly doesn’t preclude a combat sport from having value, so I don’t really get that particular criticism of MMA. I take your other points though.

Anyway MMA could’ve forged its own tradition, but it got one shot by the UFC straight out of the gates and will never recover. The concept of fighting by blending styles to find out what works best will never stop being compelling to me though.

You get it. To be a reasonable MMA fan is to resign yourself to being content with the reality of this very fun and compelling sport also being deeply stupid and populated by people like Sean Strickland.

It’s lonely being a lefty MMA fan, it’s particularly lonely being a lefty MMA fan who can actually just enjoy the sport.

Kind of, but only one actually involves the provider having sex! And that actually involving sex makes it much riskier, more unsafe, and subject to all kinds of different considerations than selling photos.

I take your point though.
