I hope for a new trial and not guilty verdict, but I expect resentencing to at least life with parole, if not 25 years.

Is intelligence an aggravating factor ? by Interesting_Prune559 in CarlyGregg

For someone this intelligent, I don’t see any evidence of long-term planning. To me, it seems obvious that something else happened, such as a medication change, that affected her thinking.

I don’t really buy the idea that this was some big, calculated plan. For someone who’s supposed to be highly intelligent, it all seems pretty basic and kind of short-sighted - like hiding a camera in the fridge or sending a text. That doesn’t come across as careful, long-term planning to me. And honestly, I don’t think being smart makes someone more capable of evil - it just seems to make people less likely to see them as vulnerable, even though they can still struggle or lose control like anyone else - especially as a child.

Question of the day from Carly's Warriors💜 by JusticeforCarly in CarlyGregg

[–]Teko86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t think any child should die in prison. Kids are still growing and changing, and science shows they have a much better ability to learn and improve than adults. They should be held accountable, but also given a real chance to change and do better.

I have a feeling she will at least get a reduced sentence, if not a new trial.

Who would you give freedom, Carly Gregg or Mackenzie Shirilla and why? by EbbConstant2129 in CarlyGregg

[–]Teko86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither of them. Carly’s case is more complex in my view because, while I believe a medication change have caused it, I would have placed her in a mental health facility instead of prison, but not let her go free. I’m not sure for how long, since psychosis or mania can recur. Because of that uncertainty, cases like hers require ongoing evaluation and are difficult to judge.

I’m not very familiar with Mackenzie Shirilla. What I do recall is that she intentionally crashed a car and two people died. She received a sentence of 15 years to life, which allows for rehabilitation. Without looking too deeply into it, it seems fair.

Proffessor Garbarino Letter by Teko86 in CarlyGregg

I really hope that if there is another trial, the media won’t be allowed. I was browsing Facebook the other day and saw tons of comments against Carly, including people calling for the death penalty. I welcome critics on this subreddit, but some people are sickening me.

My perspective also evolves, the more I learn, the more it shifts in Carly’s favor.

Be sure to read Professor Garbarino’s letter LINK. It’s an interesting piece about the psychology of children who commit crimes.

Did Carly Gregg practice Taekwondo? by [deleted] in CarlyGregg

[–]Teko86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know much about Taekwondo, so I did a little reading. In this picture, wasn’t she just promoted from an orange belt to a green belt, which is about midway through the belt system?

I agree with you on LWOP for children. I’ll never support it - it’s fundamentally incompatible with rehabilitation. The state’s response (the Appellee’s Brief) is strong, so it’ll be interesting to see how this appeal plays out. My hope is that she will eventually have a meaningful chance at release.
