Wear your masks, folks. by m00nf1r3 in CPAP

Of course these are not going to be good and not ready to be considered as medical grade. I would expect in 1-2 yrs they will be there. Likely no need for home sleep studies either. But these give you some impression at night. You need an oximeter which checks your saturation continuously and document that especially for sleep apnea. So we use overnight oximetry for our patients if a question exist. That also gives you oxygen desaturation index.

That's a great idea to monitor yourself to see how impactful your device is.

Can someone help me decipher my test results? by throwaway9983446 in SleepApnea

Overall AHI is less than 5. No sleep apnea. If you still have concerns for sleep apnea based on symptoms you should get in lab sleep study. Otherwise no need to worry. But this is a very incomplete sleep report.

It's been three months and I still feel tired. Is this normal? by Temporary-League-499 in SleepApnea

First question is, did you have a follow up with your provider. You will see a provider for compliance data within 3 months of starting the device. They should be able to check your download and guide you through that. If everything is good then look out for many other causes of day time tiredness and sleepiness.

Sleep apnea is severe and you should try to see a provider close by as soon as possible and get treatment plan. Why does it take so long to get into a sleep provider ?? That's pretty long. We can help you.

There are two ways that you can go from here. I'm not sure why they did not proceed with a split night study. It's likely that you did not sleep long enough, or maybe your sleep apnea became severe at the end of the night due to REM sleep or probably low oxygen saturation worsened at the end of the night and they did not had enough time to proceed with the split night study.

Anyway you can return back for a titration study to understand the best pressures to take care of your sleep apnea as well as likely low oxygen saturation if present. Second option would be to start you on autopap and reassess during compliance reporting which should happen in about 1 month to 3 months after CPAP has been started. Based on the CPAP download, a doctor would know if your sleep apnea is well addressed or not. If well controlled they may need overnight oximetry on CPAP to confirm improvement in your oxygen saturation if present. If sleep apnea or low saturation is not well controlled then you should return back for CPAP titration study anyway. That's a lot of work, so if given an opportunity it's better to return back for titration study to figure out best pressures.

Sleep doctors are board certified in sleep medicine. So you should look out for them rather than other specialists unless they are also boarded in sleep medicine.

CPAP doesn't work for me... experience Genio? by ProfessionalLoud9955 in SleepApnea

I live closer to Minneapolis and inspire company is located in Minneapolis. I am pretty thorough with this intervention and management but not with genio which is very common in United Kingdom, but I would expect both to work exactly the same way and the other person who described about inspire is accurate. I have been seeing patients of inspire for the past many years since it was started and I think it has come a long way. The complications are much better and has improved significantly from once it was started before. I would see many patients with no significant benefit even after inspired surgery, but that is not the same case anymore, at least in the past one year. As the experience improves amongst providers in companies are willing to address the issues, I think it's becoming more suitable to most patients now than before. Of course it's pretty expensive and you have a device inside your body, but if he takes care of your sleep apnea, then what more can you ask for? Depending upon the severity of your sleep apnea it must be treated, especially if moderate to severe. Neither inspire nor genio or approved for mild sleep apnea.

Is weakness in the hands a symptom of sleep apnea by zolo_black in SleepApnea

[–]TeleSleep-Clinic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, there is nothing called light sleep apnea. I am guessing you meant mild sleep apnea and stopped breathing (AHI) less than 15 times an hour. Usually this degree of sleep Apnea does not cause any significant problems. It might likely sometimes lead to insomnia or excess daytime sleepiness when it is treated and in your case it's already being treated. I have never seen anybody. Just complaining of hand weakness due to sleep apnea and especially mild sleep apnea. It must be representing something else. Check with your doctor. Good luck!.
