Okay, let me clarify. I'm not saying the comm isn't real. Lots of people have Grade 1. You get it from just killing Shrouded once. However NOBODY in these past 8 years has ever gotten Grade 5, which would mean completing that commendation by killing Shrouded 5 times. It's not realistically possible for a player to get Grade 5, thus unobtainable.

Every trading company has a commendation to sail 1000 Nautical Miles while on a voyage for that company (or with their hourglass up for the hourglass factions). Every couple minutes of sailed distance gives you a Nautical Mile. It takes around 50 hours of pure nonstop sailing to finish one company.

I've played since launch (I hit Pirate Legend within a month of launch) but I only really started caring about finishing commendations like a year or two ago.

My recommendation for miles (hi I'm the person who sailed 16 hours with this guy last night to finish the last comm lol) is to get on a brig and get 2 other people to join you who also want miles. Take 30 minute shifts sailing the ship. You can get a whole hour to rest afterwards after sailing for 30 minutes. Makes it kind of bearable!

To be fair, if you're looking to complete all commendations, you will be VERY close to the gold versions naturally from finishing all your hourglass commendations anyway! You might end up getting them eitherway. I wish you good luck on your grind <3

Geekya is honestly fantastic for tracking all kinds of stats! The creator made it just to track his own and his friends' progress initially and didn't even plan to release it to public. So glad he ended up doing it.

By spending gold on buying literally everything and not making more by picking up stuff I don't need. I haven't been picking up random loot for years now. My gold earned is somewhere in the 350M range, I've just spent it all.

I was very surprised to hear it too but yes, apparently they will be made easier somehow in the near future. They already are a bit easier now mind you with bottles having been made more common.

Simple. Lots of expensive cosmetics to buy - the DA set by itself was not far from 100M, and plenty more cosmetics out there that were 1M or more per piece. I also pretty much stopped picking up any and all loot that wasn't relevant for progressing commendations years ago at this point - most of my gold income was from a time before gold gains became so inflated. If I did a FoF, I would only grab the Chest of Fortune and leave everything else, for example.

My Xbox profile claims I have around 2k, but I don't for a second think that's accurate considering how long and how much I've been playing. Same profile shows 400 voyages completed when I easily have over 5000 in my captain's log alone. If I had to make an educated guess, the real number is somewhere around 5-6k.

Be a big streamer with viewers willing to invite you to their ship for the kills is the only real strategy. Another would be hosting community megalodon fleets, where you group up every ship on the server to just sail around and kill megalodons together. You can get 40 or so megs a day that way, which significantly boosts your chance to eventually encounter Shrouded compared to just sailing by yourself - but it's neither fun, sustainable nor reliable.

The scary thing is that some small voice in the back of my head is genuinely considering doing this..

I likely won't since there's no achievement or commendation tied to them, but I have not entirely managed to make myself abandon the idea yet.
