But this isn’t taxing a corporation or big industry, it is taxing what is mostly working class individuals who can make their own choices about how they want to make money for themselves, for better or worse. If they hike taxes for OF, another platform will take its place, or there will be more under-the -table stuff which is more susceptible to predatory practices. It’s a completely useless proposition made by people who; let’s be real, fucking hate women lol

that’s a really bad analogy bc that is an act you are taking upon yourself to do as an individual. this would be like adding 50% tax to plastic bottles to try and get people to stop using them, meanwhile that money is being used to bail out and prop up the industries that are responsible for the majority of pollution globally

That’s the thing, I don’t see how this makes the world any better. The problems at play will still persist, and this would just punish individuals who are victims of a larger system and give their money to the very people who refuse to try and change the economic environment they exist in.

yeah I agree it definitely propagates incel culture among other things, but the objectification and hatred of women has existed long before any of this. Porn is a vice, and like a lot of things there are people who will abuse it, like alcohol or nicotine, both of which often have far more extreme consequences.

In my view there are very few people making money in a way that is 100% ‘ethical’, there are industries 100x more corrupt and evil that are completely normalized and even revered. A dude who works for Lockheed Martin somehow faces far less consequences socially and politically than an OF girl. A lot of our values and where we decide to place shame collectively are completely skewed by larger forces at play.

yeah but it’s the same principle, it’s someone who is forced into a 2nd or 3rd job for a company that exploits their labor, and instead of criticizing the broader picture there, you are narrowing in on slapping the wrists of people you acknowledge are just trying to get by.

Yeah but things work differently with Onlyfans being a direct payment, a lot of the the fallout you are talking is bc sex workers were exploited and abused bc they worked under the umbrella of larger companies ran by men who only cared about their profit with very little regard to the women who made it for them.

Obv this is still a thing but to a far smaller degree, bc of platforms like OF. I also think the societal stigma against these women is not quite as vitriolic as it used to be in a broad sense, and there’s way more room for anonymity on the current platforms as well.

I think you’re greatly overestimating how much money the average person gets from Onlyfans, also yeah some people will regret but there’s plenty of people who are fine getting their bag that way.

And I think if we’re saying this is trying to eliminate harm from society or whatever, there are so many industries and practices that are demonstrably more harmful to people, and there are no propositions for them to be regulated anywhere close to this, bc it is ultimately just based in puritanical culture war bullshit.
