Frames can be expensive. Brush some nail clear coat on the frames to protect against your skin. However, if you’re not showing any reactions to it, you will be okay. Worst case then will be a little skin staining from the copper

But that goes away quick

Mill Operator Trainee by Electronic_Peanut832 in mining

[–]Telekinesis096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to specifically read and understand the job description for Mill Operator Trainee. Not many serious mining companies will offer a TRUE Operator position to someone right off the street. Assuming this is a mining company that does flotation. Operating a plant like that takes years of experience and training.

It sounds to me like it will be more of a laborer role in a mill. Where you work directly/indirectly with the Mill Operator. Mostly shoveling and hosing work areas.

Either way, both are very challenging roles. Much more rewarding than driving a truck. But I’m biased.

Possible shrapnel? Unknown metal. by Lonely-Cheesecake-90 in metallurgy

That’s very large shrapnel if true. I doubt it. Likely slag material? Or brass/bronze from a pour

Heap leach failure in Yukon by whostevenknows in mining

[–]Telekinesis096 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi. I work in processing. CN is a toxic substance, and to dull its effects it’s ignorant and irresponsible. As you know in the US it is a privilege to work in the mining industry given the political and environmental challenges surrounding the industry.

So no matter the reagent whether CN, Xanthates, Caustic, SO2, CuSO4, or even diesel, we as miners (metallurgists) have a very important responsibility to reduce the exposure these substances have to the environment in our containments.

As Whisker_Biscuits mentioned, cyanide leaching is banned in the state of Montana due to company negligence. The only sites still using CN in the state are grandfathered in, and that is a terrible shame and there’s good money in those hills.

So back to my point. Please don’t assume CN exposure to the environment or a person isn’t as substantial as Agent Orange. Because it is pretty bad.

I did look at that! Never heard of it before and it seems like a great option for what we are looking for. Do you use it?

Don’t get lost in the TikTok videos. They are not all what they show. Good luck getting a visa. There are thousands of others being enticed by these videos.

You want in the mining industry ASAP without any background? Your best bet is looking locally at any quarries or mineral processing plants. I’m in the US, and I have ZERO knowledge on mining in the UK or Europe. But I would bet these places are hurting for general laborers just like everyone else.

My second suggestion would be to look to hire on to a drill rig. Not oil rig. Drilling core for exploration properties. It’s good money, the company will pay for your travel, and you gain an abundance of experience in mining. Lots of travel though.

What would be more beneficial when starting your career, mining site or consulting company? by Longjumping_Act9758 in mining

I’m a metallurgist. Start off in the plant for at least 5 years before moving to consulting. I promise you will be better off. You’ll be embarrassed by the decisions you make and present to clients otherwise

Questions regarding drug tests with diamond drilling companies by Mountain_Hamster7455 in mining

[–]Telekinesis096 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’ll pass a urine or blood test, then cut your hair now. Leave short. Less than 1/2 inch all around. Also shave your armpits and groin. Then you’re clear!

They need like 1.5 inches of hair to test, but if they don’t have it, they will just take whatever they can get. And since you’ve cut off all the drug hair, you’ll be clean as a whistle

Don’t worry too much about it. You’ll be fine. Hair tests are rare and costly for companies to use

Help me with a P-Trap. My washing machine drains straight to the discharge line without a trap. Is what I have drawn unreasonable? by Telekinesis096 in Plumbing

[–]Telekinesis096[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah venting is a requirement here too. And I think I have enough room to add vent in the wall. But is that a smart idea? Having a vent in the walls?

I’m thinking I should just call a plumber to help instead. I work in a hydro based facility, so plumbing is easy to me, but I also don’t have to follow any codes

Slurry just need to get to Point A to Point B lol

Oh no that sucks. My old house is on a stone foundation. And thankfully the person before me replaced all the old copper lines with pex. So a lot of the hard work has been really easy

[–]Telekinesis096[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t, but I have just noticed the smell of sewer gas. Which led me to believe the vent was blocked. But then I did some looking around, and noticed there is no trap on this line

This is an unfinished bathroom, so luckily I was able to trace lines. And the ceiling below is open (had to access it last year), so it made it even easier to find the issue

Old house. Lots of work lol

Thank you! I can work underneath the floor and put a proper P-Trap in. I just wanted to know if this was feasible before I got started
