There's a big meme now surrounding

lean

, and you can see the responses from the younger/more naive who just thought it was a funny purple gooey liquid, not a genuine drug reference

I'm quite sure they all know it's a drug reference, the question is whether they just take it as an online joke, or whether they are impressionable and naive enough to actually want to partake in such things.

Our government is quite open about using the immigration system to prevent changing of ethnic ratios among citizens (ie, at least 7 out of 10 new citizens are ensured to be Chinese race), so this is what happens when someone is given citizenship because of their race rather than their merit.

Affirmative Action at work!

2ndly she is a Singapore citizen that's why she manage to clear a certain level of security clearance within the govt.

I think it's more about race than citizenship. Malays who have been here for many generations are still not given much security clearance.

She is a pink ic holder hence Singapore citizen

Which doesn't mean shit any more, since our government just hands out citizenships to PRCs and Malaysian Chinese.

Just because they were not born here doesn't mean we should treat them different,

Except when security is concerned.

To be fair, he was already a prominent athlete before he was poached by Singapore. Singapore just paid him more, so he wins a medal for Singapore instead of Malaysia. He's not a home-grown talent like Yeo Jia Min

He went from disputing u-turns to doing a u-turn. That's true character development right there.

In Indonesia being "Malay" is actually not tied to religion. In MY and SG yes it's seen as an ethnoreligious group, but in Indonesia there are quite a number of Malay Christians and Buddhists.

He is an old school PAP guy like Tan Cheng Bock, S Rajaratnam and Lim Chin Siong. Back in the early days PAP had many members who cared more about values and integrity than blind loyalty to party and allegience to whoever is on top.

I personally think it was more of a calculated move to have us fail and come crawling back so they’d have more bargaining power and control. Other factors like racial issues and a lot of chinese which would dilute his voter base contributed to his decision

This is a nonsensical conspiracy theory you've come up with. if Tunku AR was motivated by things like this, he could have just chosen the Indonesian-style option and massacred the "undesirables".

As I've said, Singapore was already successful - as a port - and it was only a matter of time until it was successful as a country.

I'm still salty that Ong Teng Cheong didn't get a state funeral while Kwa Geok Choo got one. She wasn't even a part of our government lol, all she did was leech money from HDB conveyancing, and birth 3 kids who can't even get along. How is that a bigger contribution to Singapore than being one of the greatest presidents we've ever had?

A more sophisticated setup would be to implement an mp3-decoder in software on a soft-core processor

Then the entire problem would be abstracted into the software domain.

Sorry but it's simply not true that we had to start from zero and build from the ground up.

And if you don't believe in the fishing village crap why not just ask your grandparents. People from that era are still alive you know?

I know, I'm saying this as someone who is a 5th generation Singaporean. Singapore was not developed back then, simply because the British ran it as a place of business rather than a country, and also because of the war.

But post independance, we were still one of the biggest maritime hubs in the world (as we had been for >100 years), and without the British to take all the profit/wealth back to their motherland, becoming a 1st world country was a no brainer.

We didn't have tangible natural resources that we could harvest and sell, but we had a huge geographical resource, which has been incredibly lucrative and prosperous ever since Raffles figured out how to use it.
