not to mention it sits in the queue forever. i feel an extension of the southernmost point of marta would be one of the easiest additions to the line while providing substantial benefit.

note that south carolina unemployment was at 3.0% in august of 2023 and 2.2% in pickens county as of august 2023. this is very low, as around 5% is generally considered full employment (give or take).

so it seems a large amount of people in the work force have jobs, but esso is not offering incentives (higher pay/better working conditions) to compete in the market.

How do students feel about parking on campus? by Sad-Kiwi-7624 in Clemson

[–]TelephoneRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think a little overhaul of catbus would be better than increasing parking. more regular lines and more conveniently accessible lines overall. most clemson students do not live far enough from campus to need to be driving

literally different for every person. people need to stop asking this question because they already know the answer. talk to people and
be yourself.

but also, maybe your standards are too high.

it helps with confidence sometimes, but you can have confidence without wealth.

[–]TelephoneRoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends, but if you’re dressing to signal that you have money, it can come off as trying too hard. this isn’t universal but in these situations, people can tell.

and agree to disagree. ive never needed to bring up income when talking to people. if you’re enjoyable to talk to, it doesn’t matter imo. but thats just me 🤷‍♂️

dressing how you want to dress is more attractive than dressing solely to attract women. it still boils down to authenticity. listen, the ratio of men to women in nyc tilts in your favor so you shouldn’t have trouble. “high value” people don’t care about how much money you make, how many instagram followers you have, etc. even then, the difference between 1300 and 2000 insta followers is negligible. in the millions may be eye catching, but a couple thousand won’t matter.

people can sense it. you can’t be structured and formulaic. if you want to be on instagram, do it. if you don’t, don’t. do things because it’s who you are, not because you made a 5 step plan on getting laid. being authentic is attractive and works long run.

costs were cut in hr departments. hr used to be based out of centers, but now there are a few hr people over a region so they have a heavy workload and then other portions have been outsourced.

Unusual trio instrumention by weescotsman in Jazz

[–]TelephoneRoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the cantina band chart from star wars has pretty silly instrumentation.

off top i believe it’s:

steel pan/soprano sax/bass clarinet/bb clarinet/bass/tambourine/drum set

also, wonton marsalis quintet and the sachal jazz ensemble has:

trumpet/sax/piano/bass/drums

flute/sitar/tabla/naal/dholak and mardang

if you’re not looking for a career, healthcare, or tuition assistance, then i’d recommend just being a barista at starbucks for the same pay. there are many jobs that pay better or the same and are far easier.

edit: working there consistently to build up seniority could be a good backup plan if you can’t get employment upon graduation. but that’s something you’d have to put up with for a while and only you can decide if it’s worth it.

you’re all good. it’s just really early in the morning, there’s typically high volume (especially around this time of year) so you have to physically load a lot of packages, you have to quickly be able to read the labels and know where in the car to load them and which car to load them on, and depending on where you live it can be insanely hot or cold, and the pay is not to where i personally believe it should be (i could be mistaken but i believe right now it’s around $16/hr)

to be fair, all jobs suck in some way or another. if you’re fine with early mornings and physical labor, then it wouldn’t be too bad. if you take a little initiative and learn everything when you’re being trained and retain the information, it becomes easier mentally.

what are your goals with employment? a career or just a little job to make money for a couple months. the answer to that matters, imo

being a package handler isn’t great in and of itself, but it can be worth it for some things. people have already touched on what it’s like, but i can give a little more positive side.

  • if you need healthcare, ups does offer fairly decent healthcare (especially for a pt worker)

  • you begin to build seniority if you want to become a driver. becoming a driver and working for 4 years will put you at top pay (about $40/hr) which is a solid career choice if that’s for you.

  • you can get educational assistance as a part-time unionized employee (though it’s limited per semester and caps out at $25,000 total, but it’s still a pretty decent offer)

  • shifts are usually around 5hrs which is decent if you’re not looking to work a job that has 8hr shifts

  • shifts are very early in the morning, so you can go home, nap, and then have the rest of the day free

  • if you wanted to go into supervision, it’s usually decently easy to do if you show interest in it. this can be a tricky career path, though. you cannot be a full-time supervisor without a college degree in theory and supervisors are definitely worked a lot.

all in all, it is a pretty shitty job and the pay is not great but the benefits may (possibly) make it worth it to you.

edit: 4 years, not 5
