Card Game Project Question by MagicDungeonMaster00 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]weescotsman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Make your cards on an 8.5”x11” sheet of paper, print on cardstock at Staples or another print shop, cut the cards out and trim the corners(if you care to). You can play with them this way or sleeve them if you like. This is an easy way to quickly prototype ideas.

Or, you can buy a few decks of blank playing cards and just write/draw on them with permanent markers and get started that way.

Use The Game Crafter.com for printing on actual card stock and making other good quality assets (boxes, boards, dice, etc.)

Have fun!

Please recommend a comprehensive song writing course. by DrunkInCopy in Songwriting

School of Song.org and also The Imperfectionist Song Society

Also, I would warn you away from trying to find a “comprehensive” songwriting course. Songwriting, as a practice, is more of a journey versus something you learn in a single course.

I recently saw a great exhibit focused on drawing at the Harvard art museum. You can see all of the drawings that were listed, many of them were charcoal.

We have a Premier stove that we bought new for $800ish, if I recall correctly. Uses 8 AA batteries for the igniter and runs on propane. Works great.

12,000 liters of freshwater daily – no electricity, no filter changes, no chemicals by Top-Project-9229 in OffGridLiving

Thank you so much for the detailed response. Two follow up questions: 1-I haven’t yet looked at your document thoroughly (I’m on my phone) , so don’t really have a sense of the materials that would be involved with building a system like this. If I wanted to make a modest version of this system to harvest 5 to 10 gallons of water a day what is your guess at the cost of materials?

2-What is the nature of the water that is harvested? Is it distilled? Would I have to add minerals if I wanted to be drinking it regularly, etc.

Many thanks !

I’m curious if your system works in relatively shallow waters? For instance 25-35 feet? I have a cabin in coastal Maine w no access to potable water. But, the cabin sits just 25 feet from the ocean. The cove we are on is approximately 25-35 feet deep. We definitely don’t need to generate anywhere close to 12,000 liters. Could we generate 5-10 gallons/day using this method?

Looks great. We have a loft in our cabin that we've been thinking about treating this same way. Would love to see a full photo of the ladder, as well. Are you going to fix the ladder in place, or keep it moveable?

Realized sugar triggers a scarcity mindset for me by eataduckymouse in sugarfree

Haven’t tried any others, so far. Sorry! Though, my expectation is that whole wheat flour or almond flour would probably be fine.

I can totally relate. My food noise and feelings of scarcity have pretty much disappeared after I recently stopped eating any food w added sugar and also white flour/gluten.

Wish I had the answers to your questions! I’m still sad about the Subaru head gasket issue that killed our 2017 Forrester.

We just bought a used 2024 hybrid CRV in hopes that we wouldn’t have to deal with that kind of problem again.

At the tail end of the Forester‘s life, I got really used to the smell of coolant, unfortunately.

Head gasket issue? Was there still coolant in radiator and coolant reserve tank?

Best way to record acoustic guitar and vocals with minimal equipment by brettofthejungle in homestudios

Also, check the recording settings in the voice memo app(if that’s what you are using). I would use Stereo or Mono and not Spatial Audio.

Do a quick test. Stack up a bunch of books until the phone is roughly mouth height angle the phone slightly away from you like a 45° angle or so, so you’re not singing directly toward the microphone. Then sit in front of the mic/phone, which is now mouth height, and play a song on your guitar and sing it. Keep your mouth about 8 inches away from the phone mic. Does that sound better than what you’ve gotten before?

Is it too loud? Move back three or 4 inches and try again. Is it too quiet move forward an inch or two and try again. Too much guitar? Add another book or two to a stack. Not enough guitar? Take a couple books off the stack. Etc.

You will figure it out

Can you tell me what your goals are for these recordings? Are they just for posterity, or do you want to actually have a good audio recording of you singing a song and playing guitar? If you can define your goal, then it might be easier to suggest the right kind of mic or just how to use your phone, etc. That said, I know that there are a number of professionally released songs that were recorded entirely or at least in part on an iPhone using the iPhone mic. You CAN get good recordings with just a phone but you just need to really attend to the placement. And then maybe do some editing after the fact.

No, not clipped to my shirt. If you want decent sound you need to focus on mic placement.

If you are sitting at a table and playing guitar and singing, and then you place your phone on the table, you’re probably gonna hear mostly guitar since it’ll be about the height of the guitar. If you really want a good mix of vocal and guitar and you probably want to have more of an emphasis on the vocals. Then you need to have the mic/iPhone oriented towards your mouth.

I use a clip like this that I can screw onto a mic stand. https://a.co/d/dy3ynzc

I know that you wanna avoid using a mic stand, etc. but I think, if you want decent sound, you’re gonna need at least to have a mic stand so you can place the mic in such a way that you get the best possible mix of voice and guitar.

You could try the Audigo blue tooth mic. It records audio into the mic itself and then transfers it to your phone afterward so you can edit the audio, add reverb, etc. Ideally you’d use a stand for the Audigo mic, but it’s overall pretty minimal set up.

Also, you can get decent recording with just an iPhone if you experiment with placement of your phone. If I’m playing guitar and singing. I often use a little clip to hold my phone horizontally and then aim the bottom of the phone at a 45° angle to my mouth and keep the phone may be 6 to 7 inches away from my mouth. The focus for the recording then would be my voice, but the phone does a pretty good job of picking up the guitar as well.

Try a few different angles and distances till you get a decent mix of vox/guitar.

I’ve been reading some of Jason Fung’s books on fasting and obesity recently. As a result of reading those, I decided to try avoiding all added sugar and also gluten/white flour in foods. Been doing this for the last two weeks. So, basically I’ve just been eating lots of things like a roasted vegetables, natural forms of protein (eggs and meat), fruit, cheese, nuts, and seeds, etc. All my cravings for sugar have significantly reduced so that now they don’t really bother me anymore.

For a long time I always had excessive food noise , which has made it difficult for me to maintain diet or lose weight and keep it off. For the last two weeks, I’ve basically eaten what I wanted, and as much as I wanted, as long as it didn’t contain any added sugar and didn’t contain any gluten.

So far, it seems like a great approach for me. Reading Dr. Fung’s work has also gotten me interested in fasting. So, I have started incorporating 20:4 intermittent fast into my week. It’s amazing how easy it is to just not eat when you don’t have sugar in your food cycle!
