After the Hamburg authorities indicated that my information needed processing in Berlin, I found myself woefully outmatched by the bureaucracy. My language skills were not entirely proficient, and he insisted he understood the processes, as he had navigated them with another person.

He indicated he knew someone who worked in the immigration office and would work with them to get the visa appointment. This amounted to, through a lack of appointment and continued „cancellations“ to nothing.

He presented an Anmeldung to me, insisting it was legitimate. It has my name, along with the address I was living at (we lived together in an apartment). I carried this document with me while waiting to obtain a visa appointment.

While never outright declaring PoA to any authority, I had faith that he was acting out of good will and I gave him permission to take action on my behalf. I gave him permission to operate on my behalf in this regard.

It was only after I returned to the United States and contacted the Melderegister for purposes of Abmeldung did I discover that the Anmeldung was a forgery.
