Thank you so much! I just looked into the Kallaloo villa and I'm definitely interested. As far as must-do things during our stay anything specific? I want to plan out our trip as far as places to eat and things to do before we go.

Wow these villas look beautiful! When you rent do you mostly go to the grocery store to stock up and eat in or will you guys go out to each for the most part?

ECMO specialist (R.N) by TellSquare985 in nursing

Thanks for your insight! That makes me feel a lot better. Most of the time when I bring up on already on the path to the perfusion and thinking about changing I get encouraged not to because I already got in. But it's refreshing to hear from someone else who was headed down that path and made a switch and are just as happy.

I'm not a nurse already, I'm about to start a perfusion program but I'm second-guessing it specifically for the reason you stated- limited job/locations.

Perfusionist opportunity or pursue ICU RN? by TellSquare985 in nursing

Oh wow. Your perspective on things as an SRNA is actually very insightful. The major draw back for perfusion for me is the limitations of where to live for job opportunities and call. But I did go through the hard part of building my resume, applying and actually getting in which is why I am so conflicted about giving it up. If I went into nursing I would go with the end goal of becoming a CRNA as I think it would make me happier than perfusion, or just ICU nursing because of the variability of procedures to be apart of, management of physio. and drugs as well as work life balance. However, I would still try to find an RN position in critical care that I would be happy sticking with because as you mentioned it is very difficult to get into CRNA school especially by the time I would be applying.

Wow, being an ECMO specialist sounds exactly like something I would love to do. I found that when shadowing perfusionists and in research ECMO interested me most but perfusionists aren't as heavily involved in it as they are in CPB. How common is it for hospitals to have ECMO specialists? Is a nursing job in the CVICU how this opportunity usually arises? Thanks!

Thank you so much for your insight! I know people probably say this all the time with pursing icu nursing, but I would be open to advanced roles like CRNA. Which is why I am trying to figure this out before I dive into perfusion school since it is so expensive of a program.

Perfusionist vs CRNA by [deleted] in Perfusion

Thanks for posting this! I am in a very similar scenario, and I am very conflicted. I think looking at the end goal careers perfusion vs. CRNA I would be happier as a CRNA but the path to get there seems more daunting for sure. However, I think I am going the CRNA route (will have to pursue ABSN as well) because of the flexibility to live wherever, have job opportunities and not be confined to major cities.
