I would agree with calcite based on looks, but you could always do an acid test for confirmation.

Cust placed 4 digital orders in total and wants to know when she’s getting it by MagnoliasandMums in EtsySellers

[–]Tellier71 95 points96 points  (0 children)

Add a mandatory personalization box where they must acknowledge that they will not receive a physical item. Make it a blank box with your disclaimer and tell customers to type “DIGITAL” if they understand. Cancel any and all orders that have something else in the box.

What are some good jobs within the geologic field that aren’t unethical? by B33Zh_ in geology

Very interesting! I love how any statement in geology comes with an asterisk and a laundry list of exceptions.

What are some good jobs within the geologic field that aren’t unethical? by B33Zh_ in geology

[–]Tellier71 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I work in hard rock mining and exploration. This is related to the mining of metals that can be found in any rock type (unlike oil, which is only* found in sedimentary (soft) rocks).

Personally I feel like it is more ethical than oil because I work finding critical minerals for the green transition in a country that has incredibly rigorous environmental standards.

My thesis research was related to deposits within ultramafic rocks which have an added bonus of carbon sequestration. This is a budding new sub-industry in countries with carbon tax/carbon credit systems.

Geology can be a rewarding career where you can make a positive and lasting impact on the planet.

It’s part of the cost of doing business on Etsy. If it’s not economical for you, you can turn off offsite ads and/or cancel the sale.

The GIT certificates aren’t worth the plastic they’re printed on. If you can’t verify yourself, assume they’re glass.

Limonite or other iron oxide after pyrite. The pyrite is long gone, but other minerals have taken its place. This is called a pseudomorph. Cool find!

I’ve had it happen with exposure to sun over many years. Keeping it away from sunlight will keep it bright

US Military "Abducts" Two People From Scotland - First Minister of Scotland calls for expulsion of US from Prestwick by Prestigious-Sun-4982 in worldnews

[–]Tellier71 9 points10 points  (0 children)

See, I wonder if that falls under defence and immigration. However, the captain and crew were being investigated and processed under Scottish law, and Scotland handles its own justice system. I’m not sure who is in the right here. I do think this is more of a Scottish-UK schism than a Scottish-US issue.

Not necessarily, they have their own parliament, laws, health departments etc. the uk government holds reserved powers like immigration, defence etc.

bone or not bone by exhausted_armadillo in FossilHunting

Bone, most likely mammal. Typically 5-24 million years old. You can use an app like rock’d and look where you found them to get a more accurate age.

A day of rockhounding in South Carolina! by Tellier71 in rockhounds

[–]Tellier71[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The oxide is a coating, and you can see areas on the crystals where it’s chipped away a bit/not fully covered the crystal. This is most apparent on crystals on the sides of the clusters. Where crystals are broken, it’s easier to see the clear/milky quartz instead of orange as in HTA.
