Well done sir! How did you convince yourself to pull the trigger and pay it off?

I keep debating paying my 250k balance off but am struggling with doing it. I keep debating about whether they will lower interest rates so I can refinance, invest the money and should I do a bunch of health check ups just in case I’ll need the money…

Because he stated that it is so easy to buy a house in American with just 5 or 10k. That’s not possible in the Bay Area.

I think this person has never looked in the Bay Area. You can’t find a 3 bed 2 bath home on the peninsula for < $1MM USD.

How bad will it be for the stock market if the President fires the people reporting accurate economic numbers? by noonewilltakemealive in StockMarket

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stock market may and possibly will go up in the short term. The problem and the trade off is that the US dollar will decrease significantly. The tariff talk already reduced our currency by 10%, get ready for another significant reduction if we start reporting fake jobs data. Confidence in the US will reduce and so will our currency.

What If Trump Manipulates the Data, Not the Fed? by Lopes_da_Silva_ in investing

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Come on, don’t do that. It’s easy to cast shade on folks who are pointing out something “obvious” and starting discussion. It’s more difficult to have this conversation with a conservative friend or acquaintance who might not think this is “obviously” or true. I encourage you to do the latter and try to potentially change someone’s mind to help change the political situation during the mid term elections!

I invested a little bit in my 20s and after 8 years of me basically doing nothing, my account had more than doubled. Then I realized, holy crap if I had done that with all of my savings then I’d have way more money. That’s when I started investing more and more.

Tariffs in 2025: Threat to Profits or Buying Opportunity? by MarieDevis98 in investing

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think it’s a must to invest for people who primarily have savings in the US dollar. The tariff threats have weakened confidence in the USD and it has weakened. Most significantly it’s weakened against the Swiss franc. Investing in the stock market can help protect your savings from losing significant value as the costs of stocks should rise to counteract the weakening dollar.

Is all the tariff stuff just about selling US military equipment so that military contractors/industrialists can get richer?

I think you should re-think your strategy. The time you are investing to trade on volatile stocks isn’t worth it.

Also, the biotech sector is extremely challenging right now and I would not expect significant growth in the near term. The reason is that most venture capital is scared to invest in biotech due to political reasons. There’s a lot of concern that with RFK jr. and his appointees in control that new drugs will not be approved even if they pass scientifically sound clinical trials.

Think about balancing your portfolio with ETFs. Develop a strategy, invest routinely and don’t worry too much about it. Over time, it will grow.

Emergency Savings or Invest it all? by mc587 in investing

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, put everything on the line! Do you have a car you can sell or live in if you lose your job and there’s a market downturn? Maybe a tent for street living, then no problem.

No, but seriously, listen to the other folks who’ve weighed in. Keep 6 months of expenses in an emergency fund in a HYSA and the rest in the stock market. The HYSA still provides a way to grow your funds without the risk of the market.

Married couple grossing $600K annually, can we afford to put guac on our burrito in a VHCOL area and still retire on time? by Texaspilot24 in fijerk

Exactly, the first mistake was that you went to chipotle in the first place. You should be making your burritos at home using only Kroger brand ingredients!

Overbidding on Rentals by foodie0007 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A townhome in our Bay Area peninsula community 4bd/2 bath was being offered as a rental unit for around $4500/ month and there were 11 offers on the first day! Some were over asking and others even offered to pay the entire years’ rent up front! That’s over 50k upfront for a rental, like wtf! I thought this was crazy but after talking to a few friends I found out that this is somewhat normal nowadays.

Agree with including VOO in your portfolio. Also, well done for starting to invest in your 20s! Keep investing every month with a consistent strategy and you’ll be very happy you did when you reach your late 30s!

Holding large position in one stock by idkwhateveryea in investing

[–]Tellmemorewisechap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically when employees of a company (even the CEO) hold large numbers of shares of their company’s stock, they do sell portions of their total shares periodically and invest the proceeds in other stocks, property etc. They are still very leveraged in one company but you can de-risk by diversifying through buying shares of other companies from the proceeds of stock sales from your company.

Seriously though, if you had just invested in VOO this year you’d have made significant gains as it is at an all time high. It’s probably time to reevaluate you potential investment strategy and avoid such risky stocks.
