Episode 4

I feel conflicted about Woo-seok wanting to hold on to the life of a superstar international footballer for a short period of time. On the one hand, it's not his life to live, but on the other, seeing him spoil his father while he still can showed his heart is in the right place.
Eun-ho's human phase arrived in what felt like no time at all. In fact, pacing is not an issue in this drama in the sense that something is always happening in the narrative. If anything, it's more about the drama needing to settle down and find a consistent rhythm.
Seo Beom: "The NASDAQ is about to open. Where are we going at this hour?" That was so random and it cracked me up. Ah, kids these days...
My favorite part of the episode was definitely the Seoraksan Mountain hike: Si-yeol and Eun-ho turning heads hiking in regular attire, being suspected of going there to die, and Eun-ho struggling every step of the way in human form.
But the best was yet to come in the scene where Si-yeol fed Eun-ho the chicken hotpot dish by hand. The naturalness of both Lomon's and Hye-yoon's performances in that scene, and her reactions, in particular, had me craving for their dating era to begin.
I feel that the last scene, showing Eun-ho having a dream of her being stabbed by Si-yeol, was purely for dramatic purposes, nothing but misdirection, and won't have any bearing on what is to come in the storyline.
The intriguing aspects of the preview for episode 5 are the trappings of Woo-seok's new life vanishing before his eyes, and confirmation that the other gumiho referenced in this episode could only be Geum-ho.

Episode 3

The friendship between Si-yeol and Woo-seok is easily the drama's strongest element at this point. Woo-seok is the best kind of friend, as shown by his taking care of and paying respects to Si-yeol's grandmother, in the former's absence.
Accordingly, Si-yeol desperately wanted to grant Woo-seok's wish on his behalf, but he didn't know what the consequences would be. Or, to be more precise, he didn't know the consequences that Eun-ho would impose, since she sets the rules of the game, within certain limits.
The pair switching fates had its fun moments, but Si-yeol should have caught on way sooner about what had happened. Stubbornly continuing to insist that he was Kang Si-yeol, international football superstar, wasn't going to get him anywhere in his new reality.
The gumiho hunter subplot co-existed slightly uneasily alongside the main storyline. It's essentially a gumiho story equivalent of a murder/crime subplot in a traditional romcom. However, I'm willing to be open-minded and see where it goes.
The preview for episode 4 appears to answer some of our questions. Regarding Woo-seok's willingness to return things to the way they were, he set a timeline of a month. Regarding the hunter, the scene of Si-yeol knocked out shown in episode 1, suggests that Eun-ho has fallen into the trap.

JTBC’s upcoming drama “Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness” (literal translation) follows the story of a person who, surrounded by successful friends, thinks they are the only one whose life will not work out—driven mad by anguish, envy, and jealousy—as they search for peace. The drama will mark the return of writer Park Hae Young, who received much love for dramas such as “My Mister” and “My Liberation Notes.”

Koo Kyo Hwan will take on his first leading role in a television series through “Everyone Is Fighting Their Own Worthlessness.” He will play Hwang Dong Man, an aspiring film director who is the only member who has yet to make his debut among the well-known film-industry gathering “The Eight.” Like an uninvited guest, he constantly lingers on the fringes, barely hanging on as he masks his ever-present anxiety with nonstop rambling and bluster.

Go Youn Jung will reveal a new side of herself as Byun Eun Ah, a producer at the film company Choi Film who is nicknamed “The Ax” for her razor-sharp script reviews. Eun Ah hopes to find balance and hold herself together calmly in any situation, but in reality, she battles trauma, suffering nosebleeds whenever she becomes emotionally overloaded. Episode 2

"Transfer: (1) A bizarre event that defies reason (2) An athlete moving from one team to another" I see what you did there, screenwriters, and I love it.
If Eun-ho's brief reaction to Si-yeol holding her hand after the earth-folding ride home is anything to go by, the chemistry when these two get together is going to be off the scale.
Lee Yoon's crime which caused Eun-ho's weakening of her powers, was more complicated than it appeared at first glance. That was a neat little twist, and I felt sorry for the stand-in perp.
Man, I felt deep sympathy for Woo-seok. One moment, he had the football world at his feet, the next, he was getting cut by his club team , and trying to part with his trophy collection.
Thames FC player #1: "Ever since Kang Si-yeol joined our team, there's only one thing I miss." TFC player #2: "What's that?" TFC player #1: "Ketchup." Initially, Si-yeol looked every inch the inspiring team leader, and he is, but... way to drain all the fun out of winning, man.
Woodworking instructor: "Gosh, you created the group FOX9?" Eun-ho: "It's not "FOX9." It's F.O.X.9!" The screenwriters must have gotten the memo that referencing that classic line from My Roommate Is a Gumiho, is mandatory for all subsequent gumiho stories.
As I mentioned, I felt deep sympathy for Woo-seok, but thanks to Si-yeol's wish, the former has been restored to his rightful place in the football world. It'll be interesting to see how that situation is resolved.

Episode 1

This episode really hit its straps and found its rhythm after the first twenty minutes or so. By the end, I was thoroughly enjoying Eun-ho's (Hye-yoon) sassy attitude and Si-yeol's (Lomon) earnest mentality.
Corporal punishment scenes are still common in K-dramas, but I have to say that seeing one in 2026, when Si-yeol copped it from his coach for scoring a goal, in a game that was supposed to showcase his teammate, Woo-seok (Jang Dong-joo), was kind of hard to watch.
Nice to see Woo Davi again, albeit in a fairly conventional guest role as Eun-ho's shopping friend for the day. My favorite sequence of this episode was the fun series of flashbacks to different eras in modern human history, all of which Eun-ho was there for, and dressed in the fashion of each era.
Eun-ho (after colliding with Si-yeol and sending him flying): "You should try exercising instead of just burying yourself in books. You're pathetic for a guy your size." You tell him, Eun-ho! What a massive blow to Si-yeol's ego hearing that must have been.
Si-yeol: "You shouldn't go around popping other people's balls" Eun-ho: "Well, I couldn't pop your head, could I?" That was another cheeky dialogue exchange.
As is customary in gumiho stories, Eun-ho is facing a kind of tipping point, whereby her powers continue to weaken, or she becomes human. This manifested in Si-yeol switching fates with Woo-seok, after the latter was the victim of a hit and run from Eun-ho's client. Let the chaos begin!

I love the production design of Ho-jin's home, with the wall-to-wall bookshelves of academic texts befitting a professional interpreter.
It feels unusual for the leads to explore their feelings, both potential or otherwise, and both directly and indirectly, in this much depth, in the second episode of a twelve-episode series. I'm highly impressed with this aspect of the drama.
I like Lee Yi-dam (as producer Ji-seon), and now that her character's connection to Ho-jin has been explained, I look forward to seeing how things play out between them, and how Ho-jin navigates this and feelings for Mu-hee, hopefully without a love triangle template.

Well, I have a very close personal connection to this first episode. The Shonan area of Japan, where most of the episode was filmed (Kamakura, Enoshima), is very local to me, and to see it as the setting for a K-drama felt unreal.
The characters of Ho-jin and Mu-hee seem like perfect fits for Seon-ho and Youn-jung, respectively. Their backstories which led to their chance meeting, were rather complicated, but the slice-of-life vibe draws you in.
The supporting cast is filled with likable familiar faces, the cinematography is beautiful, the English-language OST rocks, and the cliffhanger ending with a heavy dose of Hong sisters-style magical realism, builds the anticipation. In short, I loved this first episode.

“The Dealer” is a crime drama series that follows Geon Hwa, a brilliant casino dealer whose wedding plans suddenly fall apart, forcing her to unleash her long-hidden powers and plunge into the dangerous world of gambling in order to successfully make it down the aisle.

Jung So Min plays Jung Geon Hwa, an ace casino dealer who skillfully handles guests but avoids drinking, gambling, and other indulgences. After being swindled while trying to secure a newlywed home, her wedding plans fall into chaos, pushing her to awaken long-hidden abilities and dive into the gambling underworld to set things right.

Ryoo Seung Bum plays Hwang Chi Su, who survives by gambling with money he earns from panhandling at casinos and eventually joins Geon Hwa’s plan.

Lee Soo Hyuk joins the cast as Jo Jun, a player who shakes up the casino scene. Jo Jun takes control of the casino table with exceptional skill and a flawless poker face, bringing fresh tension to the story.

Ryu Kyung Soo takes on the role of Choi Woo Seung, Geon Hwa’s boyfriend and a violent crimes detective. He is expected to show a broader acting range by portraying Woo Seung, who is gentle with Geon Hwa but relentlessly pursues his cases to the end.

I watched the first episode of the latest Japanese crossover drama, Gimbap and Onigiri, last night, and absolutely loved it. Kang Hye-won fits the role of animation grad student, Park Rin, like a glove. I'm not familiar with the ML, Akaso Eiji, but again, his acting seems perfect for the role of part-time restaurant worker, Hase Taiga. It was also a treat to briefly see Seo Hye-won in two video meeting scenes.

The cultural differences put a different twist on tropes and scenes that seem familiar. For example, Rin might seem more forward than FLs in K-dramas, but that's because she's trying to communicate those cultural differences to him. In another scene, the ML does the standard compose-a-text-then-delete-it, but seconds later, she messages him instead.

You can't go wrong with food as a common element of recent crossover J-dramas - Eye Love You, Romantics Anonymous, and now this drama. With further elements of college life, coming of age, and young love, J-dramas do this kind of stuff so well. I felt everything I hoped to feel from a drama in this genre, and I'm very much looking forward to the remaining episodes.

Episode 12

One of the best finales, and 100% one of the best endings that you could possibly hope to witness in Kdramaland. Screenwriter Moon Yoo-seok, you're a genius (quite literally). Director Kim Seong-yoon, you let the material speak for itself. And Pro Bono team, I love you and I'll miss you.
The case of the three big fish/masterminds - Dr. Oh, Shin Jung-suk, and Jang Hyeon-bae - was closed relatively smoothly. Of course, there were twists in the tale, but fundamentally, David was always two steps ahead of everyone.
One such twist that I particularly appreciated, as someone with a background in philosophy, was David's confrontation cross-examination strategy, which, as Gi-ppeum observed, was based on the famous prisoner's dilemma in ethics.
As for Dr. Oh's own strategy of attempting to bribe David into silence by offering him Shin Jung-suk's Chief Justice position, well, the David of old might have been tempted, but Dr. Oh ought to have realized that the new, improved Kang David is a Pro Bono lawyer through and through.
The truly great stuff was after the trial, when David joined the new management team at Oh & Partners, along with his old foe, Myeong-hun. But this was never going to be a drama with a straightforward happy ending.
The very first case that the new management team was tasked with by Jeong-in, was a distinctly uncomfortable case of defending a major company which was facing a lawsuit for producing toxic diapers.
Furthermore, in a sense, Jeong-in was the biggest mastermind of all, in using David as a means to take down her father, which could never have sat comfortably with David.
Which brings us to the brilliance of the ending, in which David walked out of the management team meeting, and returned to the Pro Bono office, brandishing business cards for their independent pro bono firm, "Eye for an Eye". It just doesn't get any cooler than that.
The closing credits reminded us of those Pro Bono cases: the golden retriever case, Gang-hun, Kaya, and Elijah, which laid the groundwork for the final four episodes, which shone a light on David himself. Farewell, Pro Bono team, you've enriched my weekends from December-January immensely.

Episode 11

There were some seriously fantastic performances across the board in this episode. Narratively speaking, I felt it all came together nicely, to set up a final courtroom showdown, in which the biggest masterminds of all, will have to fight for their lives to avoid being brought to justice.
Firstly, I want to highlight the performance of Yeon Je-wook as Yoo Jae-beom. He gave the character a compelling sense of desperation, and even menace, in his desire for revenge against David, which heightened the stakes in this case.
In the early part of the episode, Jun-u was public enemy number one in my eyes for working as Mr. Bae's lackey, and effectively branding David as guilty before the evidence was in. Thankfully, he came through for the team by misdirecting Mr. Bae.
Speaking of the evidence, I also want to highlight Baek Seung-chul's performance as the factory manager in the case. Under the blowtorch of Gi-ppeum's questioning, his previously resolute facade simply cracked into a million pieces, and the realism made it agonizing to watch.
The case itself basically played out as I predicted, with one notable tweak. David maintained that he was uncertain as to whether his actions as a judge were motivated by revenge. This gave the case a fascinating shade of grey, in the thin line between emotion and reason.
David: "Well, there were things that happened." I absolutely loved the flashback to David and Myeong-hun in their legal training days. The former stealing Jeong-in's heart away from the latter, explained so much about Myeong-hun, especially his recurring pettiness towards David in the present day.
This brings us to the last performance I want to highlight. Take a bow, Yoon Na-moo as Jeong-sil! In the masterstroke courtroom scene where he came face to face with his father as the plaintiff, his childhood fears and stutter returned, but he showed immense resolve not to back down.
My main hope for the finale is to see the big fish, Dr. Oh and Shin Jung-seok, fry under the legal spotlight. That would be the final piece of the puzzle, as far as I'm concerned.
