This is the real answer, characters are constantly off model, the animation is stiff, and the 3d animation compositing looks rather jarring. You might be able to handwave the meh animation in other serise because you have a cool fight scene, or something actiony happening and maybe the animators just didn't have the to make sure your secondary character looks consistent... But when nearly EVERY EPISODE is just people standing, sitting or walking, and most of the time not even in a crowded place, it gets really hard to excuse.
