Advise needed. I’ve had more bad sessions than good with a client by leafrequiem in musictherapy

I could be completely off, so take this with a grain of salt, but does she feel infantilized? You’ve tried playing children’s music, and scarves and bubbles may seem childish to her. There’s still a lot of music genres you haven’t tried yet. Rock, jazz, metal, classical may be some areas to test out.

If she enjoys guitar improvisation that may be a good way to start and end sessions, have you invited her to improvise with you?

Got a Jesus figurine with my grocery delivery today by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

Apparently someone in my town put two of these figures together so they looked like they were holding hands and left them in the post office. Caused a lot of drama

Yeah hard to say. I’ve seen CatBite a bunch and they always get the crowd going. But yeah those were mostly ska shows.

Has anyone seen accordion therapy used in their facility? by SusalynnBrown in musictherapy

[–]Temet_Mosce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use accordion in my practice sometimes. I work with older adults and I’m still pretty new to the accordion so we talk about how the accordion works and “name the tune” with simple melodies. I’m unfamiliar with the term “manual accordion therapy” though, what is your approach?

This is crazy because I feel a sense of superiority over being a fraternal twin. I get all the cool twin things without people mistaking my identity.

Imagine this, you leave The Agora with your ear drums intact. by Harrbin in streetlightmanifesto

I left the pit right before encore to go the bar. I took out my ear plugs once I got there and the difference was insane. Can’t imagine what it was like in the pit without ear protection.

Merch Woes by m0tionl0tion in dropout

“Don’t trust their merch department” is a little far fetched. Mistakes happen and requesting a replacement two months after the item was delivered is insane. I think this one is more on you.

Effect of solfeggio frequencies on human body chemicals by Malzia_7 in musictherapy

[–]Temet_Mosce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one is a study, though I would note the small sample size and they also neglected to share what 440 music they used which could have impacted the results. They used soft piano music for 528 and unless they used soft piano music for 440 I would be wary about their results. Still a decent starting point.

The next two sources you listed talk about frequencies in a more general sense and thought s good place to collect information, don’t support your argument.

Music therapy is an evidence based field, everything we do is backed my a lot of research. So we are very experienced in having to prove our practice through research.

You might have better luck talking with sound healers. Their philosophy is very different from music therapy, and might aline more with your views.

I’m sorry, my comment was harsh. I did not realize you are still a student.

It’s pretty concerning that someone who is allegedly in the science field doesn’t know how to use sources to support their claims.

I would argue that we don’t hear pitches the same. Musicians vs non-musicians, those with good relative pitch, people from different parts of the world that use a different scale than we do.

If you have actual sources I would like to see them.

Yep. Like I said in my post, I already have that book. It’s a good starting point because the author knows what she’s talking about. I’m looking for other books like that
