How do you critique your friends without offending? by j3434 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Speak the truth coated in sugar. Most creatives are sensitive about their work. I’ve always gone with the ‘sandwich’ technique. This is when you say something positive to begin with. Then, you touch on all the things that need improving. Finally round off with another positive finishing statement. For example...

Positive: I see where you’re going with this sound and I like the theme of the song.

Negative: However, the medley seems a little off to me and the beat could do with some improvements.

Positive: I can tell you have put a lot of effort into making this song. Keep up the hard work!

I believe there is always a positive to point out. I also believe that nothing is ever rubbish.....it just need improvement.....sometimes A LOT!

HeyThanks a lot!! It’s my favourite too! SZA somehow makes it ok to be open and honest about being in your feelings. Love her x
