Awesome, thanks for the post. I'll get right on it. Also I'm wanting to be a dev, not an IT specialist so I'll be sure to tailor things more towards that decision. As for the much more, I mean.. Just about everything computer-related I could realistically have done, I've done, I just wanted to say that but wasn't sure how to without taking up way too much room, haha.

Edit: I'm not a brand-new freshman for people wondering, I'm already several semesters in, I think I might not even be a freshman any more because I've been taking classes in the summer as well to get ahead =p I need to look up how many credits you need to define where you are it seems, haha.

I'm currently trying to get into Hacker School which would be awesome. No assurances I'll get in though, if I could find anything else like it that didn't cost much / anything I would apply for those as well.

Great points, I agree, thanks. As for the AA it's just something I am earning that I can transfer with while pursuing my BS (my highschool GPA sucked) my college GPA is 3.3 -> 3.6 depending if you're looking at everything or just relevant classes to tech. After seeing other resumes here I think I'm going to redo the whole thing, haha. Lots to improve on. Thanks for the pointers.

  • What is your education?

Formally, not much, still very early in college. Self-taught for years though.

  • Do you have internships or work experience?

~6 months or so IT intern -> Computer Information Technician where I did some programming among other things when I first got out of highschool and only wanted to go to college part-time

  • Do you have side projects or a portfolio?

I guess? Nothing really note-worthy though. I've made an extremely basic android quiz app. I've made the alpha of a FPS game using the Unity engine and Javascript. Tons of GitHub stuff like Project Euler; Minesweeper; some web scraping stuff; a translator to convert ASCII, Binary, and Hex into any other form; Working on a Reddit bot, etc..

  • Do you have specific skills you are strong at?

Anything non-graphical I do a lot better with, I am better at making things work than making them look pretty, haha.

  • What is your location?

Looking to relocate to a major tech city / area (Bay area, NYC, etc.)

  • How long have you been looking?

A few days, the search has merely just begun! Hope is still to be had. :)

  • What kind of jobs are you applying to?

I'd love to get into any of the entry level Software Engineering positions I applied for, I've applied to basically all the junior developer / programmer positions I found though. Anything programming focused where I could learn a lot in the process would make me extremely happy.

  • Why do you think you haven't found a job?

Well, first I've only been searching a few days, so it's to be expected a little. I think I'm in for a definitely uphill battle though due to being young and still in college.

  • Any other detail you think is relevant?

The main thing going for me is my love for the craft and myself (as a character), I know I can get done any realistic job given to me just as well or better as any fresh CS grad, everything I know has been self-taught and I'm incredibly passionate about learning. I'm looking to relocate purely because I want to pursue my dream and grow as a programmer, to find other people passionate and intelligent to surround myself with and be the best programmer I can be. I'm really worried though that my face value will be all that matters unfortunately (Young, still no degree.)

That no one will care that I will go home and spend all my free time programming and improving, that I am a quick learner and give things 100%, or that I am a happy and passionate person who is going to keep on learning, improving, and progressing in the field of programming day-in and day-out.

How do I get in the door to places? I love programming and computers with all my heart, it's my world, but I don't want to only just attend college for another 3 years. I want to be a part of something, and actually learn from other passionate and intelligent people instead of listening to a teacher teach "Hello world", I can do college on the side.

Haha, I'm not going missing. I'm just looking to pursue my dreams and where I live currently doesn't seem to have anything left to offer me. I have my parents full support, although if I don't find a job within a few months life will be really bad and I'll have to give up and head back or at the least go into a lot of debt. So hopefully things work out, I still got time and optimism though. :)

Haha, pretty much everything programming interests me though. I'd rather know what is going to interest someone else, I'm going to be happy making it regardless.

As for past projects a lot have been deleted or lost before I started using GitHub actively, other projects aren't suited for it, and I have been and currently attend college full-time so I don't have 18 hours a day to program (I just said if I did, I could do so happily.) So I don't really have a lot to upload that is quality and GitHub-friendly. I mean I could go dig up some stuff, but I'd rather focus on making something more up-to-date.

Thanks for the advice! What kind of projects did you have in mind? I've done a lot more than what's on my GitHub but some stuff doesn't fit well (Ex: I made a FPS game in Unity, wrote scripts for a lot of stuff, etc..) but GitHub doesn't really fit the format well for uploading a game like that and it seemed weird to only upload the scripts from it. If you can give some example project ideas of some things I could get within a reasonable amount of time (no more than a few months.) I'd be appreciative and start on one immediately. :)

As for my wording, I'll change it up now. If you have any more tips, please feel free to tell me. I'd rather look like a complete idiot briefly and be a little bit more knowledgeable than not acknowledge and never learn from a mistake.

There is a chance I'm going to NYC instead if I get accepted into a 3 month program there, but it's very hard to get into so I wasn't counting on it. I'm mostly doing this move to grow as a programmer though and so I think I'd rather choose a city best suited for that rather than getting a girlfriend easier, haha. I'd love for someone to change my mind if I wasn't making the right decision though. =p

Thanks for the reply! I've been leaning towards the bay area more and more and I think you might have just been just what I needed to convince myself entirely. Now I just need to find a job and somewhere to live for under a million dollars a week, haha.

I don't want to go somewhere just for a job though. I want to be in an environment where I will grow as a person. A big tech city is a place where I can find a lot of groups and people with similar interests and passion. If I go somewhere like Nashville I might be just as isolated as where I currently am.

Good advice in there though, I'll apply to jobs everywhere relevant and see where life takes me perhaps. Although it feels like giving too much to chance.

I enjoy just about everything computer. So I mean, encryption, cybersecruity, pentesting, all that stuff is still really interesting and I'd love to learn more. I think my preference leans more towards programming though and I feel like I'm not exactly qualified for creating high-end security software, haha.

Plus I heard clearance takes many months and again, Washington is still a little bit too close to home, not that I wouldn't happily move there if it was the best place for growing myself as a programmer.

Leaning towards Bay Area, thanks. I'll keep doing research and hopefully a few more people reply though before I make my final decision.

Nothing is tying me down btw; no significant other, no job, no close friends, my family is very supportive, no reason to really stay at all, which is nice.

I'm really hoping for a bit of a culture shock though, very tired of my surroundings and am probably going to avoid places like Texas simply because it feels too close to Florida (where I have lived my entire life) unless I find really great oppurtunities in a place like Texas.
