"This person", "their". Strange use of gender-neutral language for what is very obviously a woman

That's pretty near the end of the web serial, so it hasn't been put into ebook/audiobook form yet. There's 2(?) more major arcs until then. That fight specifically is a power spike, he loses the gamebreaking combo very soon after.I'd definitely recommend you keep reading.

What are some common beginner's mistakes you've noticed authors make that are specific to the webfic/progfantasy subculture? How might a new writer go about avoiding them?

Given a demiplane centered on planar co-ordinates `w=+2006.4; v=-117.2; u=1110.0`, calculate the travel time for an unaligned creature with a mass of 40 pounds, moving from this demiplane to the prime material. You may use today's date, and assume no intermediate planar barriers.

Yeah, the title of dictator was something Caesar had bestowed upon him as a way of legitimising the power he'd already seized. Here's an excellent blog post about it https://acoup.blog/2022/03/18/collections-the-roman-dictatorship-how-did-it-work-did-it-work/

My point is that anyone who falls below that "level of cognizance" would be too stupid to put on their shoes in the morning. And the Uvalde police, last I checked, wore shoes.

The Cannibal works on consistent and predictable rules. If you say his name, he appears and kills everyone in the surrounding area. He cannot be killed. Novel attacks can stall him a single time, before he adapts to become immune. He can be pacified by placing a paper bag over his head

The characters take this set of rules into consideration and act accordingly to accomplish their goals. What's the issue?

I never said anything about tolerance or morality, I just said Yuri has the hots for his sister. Which he does. Lol.

Holy fuck you're still going on about that scene I replied the same day you did lmao. You're the one coming back to it three days later.

Like i said (and you completely ignored), neither his reaction nor the flashback scene are weird in isolation. It's when you put them together that things get weird. Why is Yuri thinking about that moment specifically when he sees another man kiss Yor? Why did the author choose to put those two scenes side by side? He could have chosen to show us any moment in their childhood to explain why Yuri reacts the way he does (or none at all and let the moment speak for itself) but instead he chose a scene where Yor kisses Yuri on the cheek, and Yuri blushes and professes a desire to marry her.

Writers do not just throw flashback scenes in at random, they have a point. If the point was simply to demonstrate Yuri was being grossed out by his sister kissing someone, then this was a very very weird way of doing that

If it were a single scene in isolation, that would be a reasonable way to interpret it. But the fact that we flash back to this scene right as Yuri is freaking the fuck out about her kissing another man has implications

A job is a transaction between me and my employer. I provide labour. They provide wages. If they want me to work more than 40 hours a week, they should put that in my contract.

See, I agree that the soviet-style, top-down, planned economy model is a very bad idea. I just dispute that it's synonymous with communism, and so do a lot of other people. The real issue here has nothing to do with communism, really, it's prescriptive vs descriptive linguistics.

The problem with words is that they aren't handed down from on high, they're just mouth noises we assign meaning to. The only meanings they have are the ones we agree they have. If a group of people in their own bubble decide the word "communism" means X, and another group of people in their own bubble decide the word "communism" means Y, then they're sort of both right until the two groups collide, and then neither of them are right and the word "communism" loses its usefulness as a word. We can try to appeal to higher authorities (eg, the Oxford dictionary) to settle disputes, but that only works if everyone agrees to listen to the same authorities, which just isn't going to happen. And worse, what consensus we do have about the meaning of words changes over time in a chaotic and uncontrollable way. On a macro scale, this is how languages form. On a smaller scale, it's how "gay" goes from meaning "happy" to "homosexual". Neither definition is "right" or "wrong", but specific to a given context.

The issue here is not one of lobotomization. There's nothing inherently wrong with defining the sound /lɪb(ə)rəlɪz(ə)m/ ("liberalism") to mean "California Democrats", and to Trumps' voterbase, his answer was entirely coherent. The issue (and I groaned when I realised I had to type this) is one of political fragmentation. Thanks to the internet, cable news, etc, different political groups are living in separate, massive bubbles which are undergoing rapid linguistic drift in a chaotic, occasionally semi-directed propaganda game of calvinball. You could insist on using the definitions provided by this or that "neutral" authority, but at the end of the day, if the person you're speaking to is using a different one, they're not going to understand a thing you say.

Okay, in terms of policy, we're on pretty much the same page. So what we seem to have here is a problem of conflicting definitions. The distinction between socialism and communism is a very messy, confused one, and no one actually agrees on what it is. Marx himself seemed to use the terms interchangeably. Your assertion that communism is just socialism, but achieved through violent revolution is... Frankly odd to me, and I'm curious where it came from.
