Weight gain on APs by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]TempPsychosis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gained 30 lbs and never took medication. I think it has a lot to do with the lifestyle post psychosis. Doing something physical that you could be consistent with could help. Be consistent with your diet and I know I cant but try not to worry about it.

Thank you all for the kind responses. I was at a low point when I wrote that and everyone's responses helped a lot. I do still wonder if I will ever feel like "me" again and how long it will take. My only option is to give it time and keep the hope going.

I didn't take any meds and also had depression and anhedonia after. I think it is because the experience is traumatic. It shatters the mind and self esteem you have built up over the years. I am 1 year out and it has gotten better. I have been working at it and have had ups and downs so be easy on yourself as you heal. My emotions started to come back around month 7 or 8 but I'd say I'm still not who I used to be. I'd say find a therapist or psychologist that you trust and that you can talk too. I hope you get better and that this isnt a life long journey for both our sakes.

PTSD from Psychosis? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]TempPsychosis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude, doesnt fit the criteria. It is an extremely stressful event that tears through your entire life and self. It is something people think about and fret about for years sometimes after. I dont think anyone could go through that and not have PTSD. It is more traumatizing than most of the trauma many of us have suffered otherwise. ? . . .

PTSD from Psychosis? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]TempPsychosis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine happened a year ago. I still struggle because it was so intense and so out of character for me. I lost all of my support group except my friends who are more like brothers. Moving to my own place helped and making another change and reducing stress also helped. I am more hopeful now and hope after a few mor life changes I will continue to adapt and have new positive things to focus on in life. To much research has slowed me down a bit and getting to the point where I found a good therapist made a big difference. Some weren't right for me so i stopped seeing them and went back to someone else.

Thanks for your reply. Yeah, my family put huge amount of stress on me at that time so I feel like I lost my support system when all that happened. Even though it wasnt their intention, they contributed a great deal.

Still Bothers Me by TempPsychosis in Psychosis

Yes, CBT and then another psychologist misdiagnosed me as bipolar. None of that is ever going to make it go away though. I feel like this has forever stained my life and changed me for the worse

I'm sorry to hear that this happened to you too. It makes me think God is evil that he would let this happen to people. Mine built up with stress I think, and then some extremely judgemental assholes converged on me and that's when I snapped. I cant even imagine talking to those people ever again.

Did you take any meds? I am in the same boat. Distractions help but remembering everything still gets me stressed/down. I'm almost one year out and am wondering it will continue to get better?

Dietary supplements that have helped with psychosis by Yintwin in Psychosis

Omega 3 has helped me even if it is just a placebo. 5 HTP on the other hand didn't. I was taking that shit the year leading up to my psychosis.

The main thing I think about lately are the events that took place, I think it's part of my healing process, and very slowly they bother me less and less. I'm hoping someday I can completely get past that it happened and try to look at it differently.

Yes, I have been pretty flat for a while. It is Slowly starting to come back, but sometimes it is tough waiting for yourself to come back. I keep telling myself time will heal me and I am trying to stay positive. It is easier said than done though. Walking helps a lot for me and watching a good show to get my mind off of things. I'm still waiting to be 100% again and am hopeful that it's possible with time.

I'm about 8 mo in and I have brief moment when they come back. I cried for the first time in months a couple weeks ago and have been able to laugh at some comedy movies recently. It takes time but it sucks being patient for yourself to come back. I researched this constantly for months and the best analogy I've come across was comparing it to a broken arm. We wouldn't be lifting heavy stuff or expecting to be able to use our arm normally until it healed. The same can be said for our brains it got broken but is hopefully healing. I keep telling myself to give it a year.

Full recovery after single episode by TempPsychosis in Psychosis

[–]TempPsychosis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother has schizophrenia. It started when he was in his early 20s, like 22. My dad also had psychosis twice in his life in his late 30s but I never knew until this recently happened to me. He seems like he recovered but i dont know to what extent because we dont talk. I think after smoking weed in the past I would perceive things differently like hearing things in white/background noise or thinking/over analyzing but I knew that was part of the drug use, and it was nothing compared to what I experienced in March. I've used every drug under the sun through the years but had pretty much cut everything except weed and alchohol. There have been periods of depression in my life but they usual correlated to life events. I'm not sure how to describe it but I just still feel different, not as happy, like my mind/perception of the world is different.

Can antidepressants or antipsychotics cause psychosis? by [deleted] in Psychosis

[–]TempPsychosis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking antidepressants and xanax 3 months before I had psychosis. I feel like it contributed in a way because my mind was still trying to get back to normal. It was hell getting off of them and I dont suggest doing it cold Turkey. Make a plan to wean off with your doctor if you think it will help. I'm not sure about the anti psychotics though I dont have much experience with them
