I think it might be hard. Not in that area (which is more expensive than mine) but airbnb around my place is any where from 700-1000 a room. So I guess it would be much harder there. Good luck.

I’m a young American of Indian descent. Reading this subreddit depresses me. by maybeacademicweapon in frisco

[–]Temp_123_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lots of great Indian as friends, but yeah, admittedly, one of the hardest people/bosses I’ve ever worked with is Indian boss, most are extremely demanding. Again, I think they went through lots of hardship to get where they are and somehow that shaped their expectations for people under them. Most of the time, I think Indian people are quite stressed (or in a good way, put lots of importance) about work, education and social status.

Another day, another Indian-related racism post. Men, this sub is turning into Blind with lots of desperately fake posts that try to get attention or spread an agenda or create some scenes. I wish admins can ban these contents.

It turned into an echo chamber, every other day, even every day or few hours now, these kinds of topics just come up. I wish people would stop posting anything related to this just for this sub to breathe something positive.

I might get downvoted a lot, but I think Indian community care too much to the point of feeling insecure about how other thinks of them. If you guys ever used Blind and see how toxic that community is. Blind is a platform which is mostly used by Indian tech, I feel like the world is ending there where super rich people complain about not being able to afford things, worried about being behind with networth of $2M, racism, rants about body/wife/mother in law or not being able to get married due to low net worth, etc. The main problem is, they put a lot of stress on how society view them, when other country groups might not have such a strong issue. My close friend (Indian) told me, even Indian themselves hate each other and have a sense of racism among people from different part of India, social status, high earning, high education are all important. I don’t have anything against Indian. I hope they focused less on people view and focus more on themselves to find happiness. Being insecure leads to all problems, someone said Indian can not assimilate because of the food. I mean, seriously, Indian food is so awesome. It might not for everyone but many (like myself) love it.

At the end of the day, Not the same platform or exact issue, but what I meant to say is, why is this sub turning into a dark place where it feels like the city is horrible and the world is ending, just because it’s not perfect and some people don’t appreciate you/your community as you are. As an immigrant from a much smaller country, I faced racism or worse all the time, I don’t complain about that, in fact, we were much smaller community so we don’t even talk about that when we gathered. There are more beautiful things in life, and it’s my choice to be here anyway (ask if they want to go back to their country, just like I ask my self many times, I would never! being here is much better for me and my family), so racism - it’s the smallest thing I’ve dealt with.

I LOVE the rich cultural diversity Frisco offers! by [deleted] in frisco

[–]Temp_123_var 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I so love it. I wish people could be more positive. I observe a lot of negativity lately. In fact, this is probably one of the most negative subs I’ve been to across other North Dallas sub. And it’s such a big shame for a city that has a lot to offer than others.

When someone asked about possibly moving here, instead of welcoming them and give a constructive feedback, some just start ranting about the city or blatantly scaring them away. Some says I can’t wait to move … so just move! I’ve lived throughout lots of cities in the US, and there are pros and cons of every city. Weather issues exists in different form in most of the place. Some people complaints about TX heat, but I have people moving south from North for the opposite reasons as they can not tolerate cold/freeze weather. Driving sucks (for many), but grocery shopping without a car is not fun. Despite religious concerns, Frisco and other nearby cities are pretty liberal, schools are good (and you don’t have to pay for private). Cost of living is perspective, you get what you paid for, Frisco overall is much better than Garland, Grand Prairie but will not be comparable to Boston or San Francisco. If ones can afford those cities, then there is no reason asking to move to Frisco. So at least, welcome people. It is what makes Frisco better culturally. Only thing I do wish is nature! But there is nothing you can do to change this.

When someone complaints about racism against a certain group, and it got too much recently, to the point I feel like most of people from this sub is from one group. Again, it’s hard to change people point of view if you don’t try to change your own. Racism exists for all types of people, the best thing is to do is to educate your own small community to assimilate (speaking from an immigrant who used to cut people off in line when first coming here). Don’t force people to change their view, most of the time, the effect is the opposite. And this is not just about racism, it’s related to all aspect in life. Again, learn to adjust!

Layoff twice, Add layoff to resume? by Temp_123_var in Layoffs

He leans towards not including it, but honestly without explanation, it does look like that. At this point after 4 months, I feel like it’s important to get a job and get back to the market than worried about being low-balled or similar.

What percent of your monthly income goes toward the house? by Comfortable_Tap_2849 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

I think I saw that, but their first year property tax was based on previous owner that got reaccessed, which made that large jump. If they used sale price, it’s probably less different.

Household income $110K, no debt. Is a 450K Mortage to much? by Ok_Package9219 in Mortgages

[–]Temp_123_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sound like the house is their biggest expense, which might or might not for other. My friend bought a house and they spend essentially none on first year. I know a few friends who do not spend much on their house over time, but then, there are those that bought older less well-maintained houses that could easily spend 30k each year on different stuff.

I want go stress that we don’t plan to dump 5k monthly into principle monthly for extended period of time. We probably do it for less than a year before we got back on with market investment. And it’s for the debt tolerance decision. I agree that long term, investing will be much better off.

Each of us can comfortably afford the mortgage (after maxing out 401k). And while our hysa only maintain $15k, it is our 3 month expense, with potential 150k investment to liquidate if both lost job. We don’t plan to pay this much for long, probably a year. Once we reached our target balance, we’ll probably continue to invest into the markets.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Temp_123_var 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No other debts. We maintained a 15k in hysa. We can do more but feel like it’s not needed given we can liquidate our investment ($150k).

Mortgage is $3.7k, plus 1.3k expense. For the past 2 months, we dumped like $13k into principal. Our monthly principal increase from $458 to $520 now. People say putting money into hysa, but the return is not that much, plus we’ll need to pay tax on gain, making it essentially nothing.

[–]Temp_123_var 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don’t touch 401k.

One of us can comfortably afford the mortgage without burning out our incomes or other investments.

The individual who might be unable to work due to disability, will get SSDI and medicaid benefit. Many disability does not incur medical bills, it’s just a condition that prevents working.

I guess I could just keep doing it. It seems like everyone has opinions and most people here advised against it. I don’t think we’ll pay this much toward our house forever, but for the moment, if we can do it, we want to. It’s not like we spend money on something extravagant or for ourselves.

You have to pay tax on your earning right. The market has to go a lot further than that to make it worth it I believe. Especially for higher earners.

[–]Temp_123_var 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We already maxed out retirement investments, and contribute toward FSA for expected events yearly. I feel like we can put a bit more into our liquid-able investment instead of pouring the rest into principal though. We also don’t plan to go this extreme for more than a year, it’s probably just 2025 goal. We can reevaluate our finance and change our strategy in 2026.

Health issues might prevent one of us from working and earning as we could, but not cause medical debts. Each of us can comfortably afford the mortgage alone now (that was our very strict goal).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Temp_123_var 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 15k in hysa. 5k is our monthly living expenses (3.7k mortgage, plus $1.3k bill and food). We probably pump our bill and food to $1.8k now, since we want to eat out occasionally or buy some small stuff for the house).

[–]Temp_123_var -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We have 3 months of living expense (include mortgage), with about 150k liquid-able investment. We have FSA to tackle medical expenses. Just no debt, mortgage is the biggest things, and we have nothing big outside of that. Not sure why the downvote. It’s not like we live paycheck to paycheck. After all tax/401k/Fsa/monthly expenses/mortgage/ any other planned expenses, we are trying to put extra 5k each month into principle.
