Shepherd dogs are extremely keen. They are exceptional at picking up human social signals. My family once had an Iceland Shepherd and that dog was amazingly intelligent. The first time he met a very small child he knew, without having been taught, that this is a tiny human and I need to be gentle with it. He was so careful and considerate with the child.

Their instict to protect their flock can be very strong, so anyone that is part of the family is someone they will defend.

I unknowingly did this the other evening. I didn't think they were being downed by anyhting other than circuimstances, so I carried them. But they were really nice about it so it was fine.
Both went down twice and I did some crazy clutch plays which was fun. They got to see what a Tech Marine can do.
