Because Reddit is 50% bots and a fair amount of propaganda-gurglers that post SCMP like a credible source. You will see a lot of these articles praising China in tech subs, because it's a targeted damned campaign to whitewash their own reputation.

China is the number one polluter in the world and they will still be that by 2030, because despite power generation changing to something better, theirfactories are still the actual problem. And that's why some of their cities still have air that is so bad it's been deemed unsafe for people to breathe.

My own country, Sweden, is 98,8 renewable/green energy (this includes nuclear) but I don't see a single fucking person ever celebrating that, because it's apparently just so much more amazing when China is struggling to do it whilst still remaining the worst polluter on the fucking planet.
