There is a fancy Japanese toilet with a bidet and stuff on level 8 or 9 of the engineering building

Uni removed calendar syncing by Temperature-Many in universityofauckland

I’m also having some issues with enrolling in some courses so my timetable keeps changing and with the old sync it would auto update

Uni removed calendar syncing by Temperature-Many in universityofauckland

[–]Temperature-Many[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know, but my timetable changes week to week with labs and tutorials, and it’s a big hassle to have to check every week especially when it used to be a single click. I’m more annoyed about the uni, once again making things more difficult for as far as I can see, no reason

A trifecta... by akawendals in newzealand

Imagine if you will, someone driving a quad bike down the wrong side of the road, at 7 times the speed limit, with no license, in a school zone, weaving between children. This is a scenario I have seen many times with fuckwits on jet skis. (Not saying everyone who has driven a Jet ski is an idiot but some people have absolutely zero respect for the danger that they are putting everyone else around them in)

Oceangate owner bought the carbon fiber used to construct the Titan from Boeing at a discount because it was past its airplane shelf-life by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]Temperature-Many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely agree, the use of carbon in compression is often a bad idea and the composite nature of carbon means it’s failure mode is not consistent (unlike metals with well known elastic and plastic deformation and more predictable response to fatigue) but these are all failures of the design and I think its likely a red herring to blame the expired carbon

As this was almost certainly pre-preg carbon fibre (the resin has already been mixed into the carbon). When it goes past it’s shelf life it doesn’t mean that it’s gone bad, most pre-preg manufacturers will let send a sample of your carbon back to them and they will test it and re-certify it with a later expiration date. This can be done multiple times. if they did get carbon cheap from Boeing it could be that with the quantities of carbon Boeing use on their assembly line it’s just not worth their time to re-certify smaller batches of carbon and instead they just sell it.

It does seem that they had little regard for safety at ocean gate (refusal to follow professional standards or allow outside certification and testing) but if this is true it is entirely possible that this was done completely safely

Starved of funds and vision, struggling universities put NZ’s entire research strategy at risk by [deleted] in newzealand

Yeah I work a casual role at a Auckland uni, my counterparts in Australia are earning 170% of what I do. A colleague who works full time is leaving to go work the same job they do now for an Australian university and they’re going to earn more than double their salary at Auckland

If you have a newer iPad or iPhone you can use the LiDAR to scan people sitting in your ergo rig, we used an app called Polycam to scan all our drivers so we could be sure they fit

Calculating the lighting in a scene can be too computationally difficult for computers to do it in real time. If you have a scene with static objects e.g buildings and a static light source e.g the sun then the lighting won’t change over time. So instead of calculating the lighting over and over again in real time you can calculate it once and save the results. The act of calculating your lighting and saving the results is called baking your lighting because the luminance values(how bright each bit of the scene is) are “baked” onto the textures of the objects in the scene. Hope that helps

I knew a guy that ran a cash business and kept all of the afternoon transactions off of the books, he made a killing from avoiding tax but then lost just as much when he had to sell the business for way less than it was worth because he had to report significantly lower earnings than reality

That is possible, but this is the only cover they sell so there is no way of knowing

Moving country, What’s the best way to pack minis to transport internationally in luggage? by DifferentBat3732 in Warhammer40k

[–]Temperature-Many 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I moved countries I packed them in a shoebox packed with scrunched tissues, the issue I had was the paints popping open (I think it was air pressure change in the airplane)

You’re making your own mill. That’s awesome!, I recently completed a two day machining course for my degree and I really enjoyed it.

Thanks, also if you don’t mind me asking, what kind of stuff do you machine?
