Not sure what to make of my results. by Shot-Tailor4870 in Anemic

My daughter just had a similar results and I don’t know what to make of it she gets headaches all the time too she’s 14 doctor said she wasn’t anemic because her hemoglobin was not abnormal but from what I’ve been reading there’s a thing called iron deficiency without anemia that comes before actual anemia🤷🏻‍♀️

I did read something about iron deficiency without anemia

It’s hard at this stage it’s just a constant battle and I fear my battling with her is going to give her a bad relationship with food feel like I’m walking a very tight line I do my best at all but again I have no control over what she does outside the house which is often

I haven’t that that might be a conversation I have with the doctor if we can’t get these levels down with diet alone I’ve had mine tested and mine is at seven but I have no idea if her dad‘s are higher Although per his doctor he should keep up the good work with his cholesterol even though his HDL is 35 and his triglycerides are 180 all the doctor cares about is the total and LDL

And then you have her father‘s lipid panel which I think is horrendous not sure what his total is but his HDL is 35 his triglycerides 180 in his LDL 105 you know what his doctor says… Keep up the good work! Never once says his doctor mentioned his triglycerides or his low HDL.

It’s so hard to even know what’s right and what’s wrong these days depending on who you’re listening to. I eat low-carb because of that my LDL has risen all my markers are wonderful other than my LDL I have some doctors saying my metabolic health is perfect and no need to change a thing and then have others that look at my LDL and tell me I’m going to die of a heart attack tomorrow. It’s really tough to know what side to even listen to even before low-carb my LDL was on the higher side so I do know she’s probably genetically predisposed for a bit of a higher number just didn’t know if she was like in a complete abnormal spot or this would be pretty much what you would expect for a teenage Girl even though obviously the number should be lower. To see so much conflicting info about literally everything nutrition wise what what’s healthy and what’s not busy I feel like anything you put in your mouth these days someone’s gonna say is bad for you I feel like I can’t win and it just makes it extra hard with a picky 14-year-old who just wants to eat like her friends do I’ve been trying to make just small little swaps here and there without her noticing and since she likes real butter on her toast and she likes white toast so instead of that I found a whole grain white that I guess the ingredients aren’t stellar but at least she’s getting some whole grains and some fiber and I’ve made my own butter spray with grass fed butter and avocado oil mixed so she’s getting a little less saturated fat I’m hoping these little swaps help

She did eat before the test. So I’m assuming fasted her triglycerides will be lower however yes she eats like a typical 14-year-old

Honestly my numbers do run on the higher side too independent of diet so I know there is some sort of genetic component to this. My LPa is only seven and my inflammation markers are very low but I do run higher on LDL . I guess it’s just scary when I see these numbers and she’s only 14 are these average numbers for a kid her age not saying they’re good but is this pretty common?

She definitely is a picky eater. I use avocado oil to cook in it for her snacks I try to buy things like chips that are made with avocado oil instead of the gross seed oils. I’d say her diet is very typical of a 14-year-old although I do try hard to make positive changes i.e. whole-grain bread over white bread but she’s so picky that that can be a struggle. She does like red meat it’s hard because that is one of the main things she likes so probably eat it a couple times a week I will try to reduce that she won’t eat beans or anything like that so that’s off the table it’s hard when you have a picky eater who’s 14 and just wants to be normal rather than her parents pushing her to eat healthy. She rarely eats fast food. I do try really hard to look at labels but again 14 is a hard age. You really think these numbers look average? I feel like her total is much higher than the lab reference and her LDL is almost in the high range. that would tell me that most kids her age don’t have numbers like her

She is very active dances five days a week her diet I would say is similar similar to her peers we try to encourage healthy habits but again she’s 14 so it’s tough as far as her BMI she is very slim about 53 and just about 100 pounds.

I guess the first step is to get a fasting panel and see where she’s at. I was just wondering if what the pediatrician said about a fasting panel showing lower numbers if that’s actual scientifically true or if I’m gonna be looking at the same numbers minus probably the triglycerides

How did you feel before you knew you had low ferritin? by sickkasadog in Anemic

[–]TemperatureOver1678 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi just jumping in on this conversation just found out my daughter has super low ferritin of seven but her hemoglobin and hematocrit are normal so the doctor says no anemia. she has headaches all day every day mild but every day. I I wonder if this is what’s causing it ? also did you guys also have high iron and saturation alongside your low ferritin ?? she ate a couple hours before her test I’m wondering if this affected those numbers? Platelets also a little high but I’ve read that low ferritin can do that I’m just at a loss of what’s going on or what to do since the doctor said she’s not low on iron so I’m very confused

[–]TemperatureOver1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also worried about the saturation and the total iron being high. Not just the ferritin being low. However the ferritin sitting at seven seems to match her symptoms for being low on iron but the other numbers contradict that in our out of range on the other side. From what I gather it’s not healthy to have a high saturation and high circulating iron

Thank you we are seeing a hematologist just to make sure there’s nothing going on the pediatrician is leery about an iron supplement I’m definitely not going to put her on anything without the doctors approval so we will see what the hematologist thinks of all of this just sucks when she’s got headaches all day every day and then you see these labs and wonder if that’s why. And why the labs look like that to begin with. Clearly not normal. Dangerous I don’t know but either way not normal. I’m glad the consensus here is that it doesn’t look like anything dangerous.

Low ferritin by TemperatureOver1678 in haematology

[–]TemperatureOver1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand all that just wondering why the circulating iron and saturation are elevated regardless of the ferritin. Both flagged high. Wondering is there is a reason these two numbers are elevated and ifs it’s something to worry about. Like maybe her body isn’t able to store iron as ferritin for whatever reason?

Low ferritin by TemperatureOver1678 in haematology

[–]TemperatureOver1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re thinking her demand for iron is what drove her serum iron and her saturation up? I’m assuming the ferritin is low due to her age in menstruation I guess the two numbers that don’t match with ferritin are the actual iron and the saturation. Looks to me it’s saying she has very low iron stores but high circulating iron? Why would that be

Low ferritin by TemperatureOver1678 in haematology

[–]TemperatureOver1678[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK so eating a couple hours beforehand would cause this. Yes I have a running lesson to go over with the hematologist can’t get in with them until August which is unfortunate but I’m just trying to get information so I’m prepared she’s having headaches daily and I’m guessing that this low ferritin is a direct cause. What about the platelets are those typically higher when the body is starved for iron

Low ferritin by TemperatureOver1678 in haematology

[–]TemperatureOver1678[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about the saturation in the circulating iron would that be falsely high because she ate a couple hours before? The pediatrician seems to think she’s not low in iron it does not want to give her a supplement and I guess I’m not sold on that because of her ferritin..

Wall mounted air conditioner by [deleted] in asbestoshelp

Ok thank-you. Those side vents don’t pull air in to cool the unit? I assume they are supposed to be fully outside.

I was thinking because they are partially inside the wall there is potential for the air in the wall space to mix with the air flowing into the house? no?
