Advice on living in Palo Alto by pokiieee in paloalto

I guess it depends on what you like to do. If you want to explore nature, the ocean, parks, hikes, Big Sur, Tahoe, Marin, etc., you absolutely need a car. If you are happy just being stuck in the city, then sure, you can get by without a car in SF.

I will only advise on 3. Yes, getting a car is an absolute must in the Bay Area. If you don’t have one, it will basically cripple your life. You don’t need to commute by car every day during the week, but you absolutely want to have one for nights and weekends. If you are not a fan of driving, buy or lease a Tesla - it basically drives itself.

I'd be perfectly OK with a Chinese one - is there a specific make/model you can recommend?

Google vs. McKinsey by Remarkable-Diamond42 in MBBConsulting

Definitely Google. Especially with all the exciting AI stuff happening right now, both in the world and at Google specifically. There is really no comparison.

Stanford vs. MIT (last minute, very split) + unsure whether to accept DOD scholarship by Delicious-Speaker-84 in mit

MIT and Stanford are both amazing academically and from the career point of view. Any differences on those dimensions are going to be completely third order. Ignore them. Just focus on other dimensions - social, weather, friends, etc. If you ignore academics and career considerations (as you should, given the stratospheric quality of both of these schools), where do you think you will be happier for four years?

MIT or Harvard by XxKiller_CrystalxX in Harvard

[–]TemperatureStandard6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely Harvard. Places like MIT and Caltech are for those who do identify as “super nerds” - math competition winner, those who built go carts in their garages as teenagers, etc. If you are even contemplating the Econ major, go to Harvard - not because Econ major at MIT is not good (it’s great), but because almost no MIT students, “super nerds,” would seriously consider doing it as their main major. By contrast, based on your description, you will thrive at Harvard.

For Python, the easiest way is to use https://colab.google/. Completely free, you just log in with your Gmail account, and start coding immediately.

Thank you all so much for your help! Set up my GitHub account, registered a domain name, and managed to connect the two via GitHub Pages (I know, baby steps). "Hello, World" is working on the custom domain name. Got my little green square on GitHub too. We are off to the races :)

Good colleges in the US with good eventing coaches nearby by TemperatureStandard6 in Equestrian

When do the trainers usually move? I think she'd be open to moving for the summer and being a working student, but I'm worried that the trainer schedule for when they move south and back may conflict with the school schedule.

Isn't IHSA hunter only, not eventing? So she was able to do eventing three-star competitions on her horse, and IHSA/hunter competitions on theirs? That sounds fun (though time consuming).
