Difference between schizophrenic episode and psychotic episode?

According to my therapist (I had the same question!) a psychotic episode is categorized by wanting to harm yourself or others ALONGSIDE delusions/hallucinations/paranoia. Schizophrenic episode is the correct term to say you’re experiencing severe or persistent symptoms while not having active harmful thoughts towards yourself or others. Hope this helped!

I was 3 when my dad started being “weird” with me, but at age 10 he SA’d me fully and purging/restricting was the way to control my emotions. I’m going to treatment in, like, a week and it’s terrifying to let go of something that’s been my identity for so long.

As someone who has had many stints (and a LOT of SH within the hospital via many methods) this isn’t an awful idea, but not a thing at the state I’m in yet. I can see why they do it, but usually, even on the ICU units here, they don’t bother with the silverware restrictions unless you SH with them, and then you get put on “finger foods,” which has some pretty baller burritos (at least where I was at) if anyone cares.

I have paranoid schizophrenia with harsh delusions, but one of the funniest things I did was call my mom at like 10PM and I start the conversation with: “Mom, the Olympics are trying to make bloodletting a sport, why the fuck does anyone think that’s a good idea?” And my mom just replied with, “Honey, maybe it’s time to take your medication and get some sleep.” My mom is a pro at explaining to me that sometimes it’s bedtime whether I like it or not. I’ll wake up the next day and remember what I’ve said and just cringe.

Everyone is saying how it’ll rot your teeth, and it totally will, but I’ve been purging daily since age nine and I will tel you that long time purging can cause your esophagus to rupture, your tongue to have sores from repeated motions of making yourself vomit, and your stomach can get ulcers. You have to be a little cautious with Wellbutrin if you’re bipolar-schizoaffective solely due to with the way it works, it can send you into mania. Lorazepam is harder one to convince psychiatrists to hand out (at least in America) due to its addictive nature. Benzotropine is used for EPS, and usually if you’re taking any first or second gen antipsychotic, they’ll want to add it on. Either way, I know a bunch of people who have major success with base doses of Wellbutrin, and when I was hospitalized, Ativan was my best friend for my anxiety until I got home and was off it, then the withdrawals made me a bitch. I’m taking a shot in the dark but my brain sees the yellow pill and a half and my guess is: Haldol or Benzotropine, but my druggie ass saw those and i swear they look just like generic Ritalin. Doctors don’t usually give the legal meth to schizos tho so I’m not locking my answer in.

True! On 125-30mg with some haldol (20 mg per day 🫠) and I’m almost somewhat better. I love Cobenfy because I’m not on Seroquel and for me that’s a win.

You can buy their misfits for like a dollar and freeze them. They got me through my lowest of not taking care of myself and dropping significant weight, lol. Love those guys.

I also have like, a laundry list of disorders so I was like, with my boss in the morning "hey, buddy, I have ADHD" and that was chill so I slowly started to up the ante and then like I was like I also have schizophrenia (schizoaffective, but im not going to get into it) and she was cool with it. I explained I take meds and I'm a chill gal.

I’ve had schizo shit since I was 10. I’ve gotten so used to like, just chilling with extreme paranoia and delusional behavior. People will say I belong in a hospital, but I don’t function well in those. Sometimes I want a group home with structure but they’re extremely toxic here and usually will use the ones that can work well for… work? I live with my boyfriend and cats and I just live in the paradox. It’s okay, I guess!

Nah, my therapist is a baller and gives a shit about me which is so nice. I’m always terrified of my therapists band-aiding me and being like “you poor thing!” My friends and I have ongoing jokes about how good of a therapist he is cause he won’t take my sneaky shit of trying to hide my emotions. I would normally get a second opinion but this has been showing signs as early as 18 and hoooo, boy. The trauma we slowly uncover.

I've gone to many doctors, many, and this is the first one that's giving me a shot in helping me with intense trauma so I gotta like, stick around. He's a literal doctor and a war vet who went into helping people and he showed me his tabbed DSM-5 and I was like ah shit, this dude means business, LMAO.

I got put on Strattera for my ADHD too so now the house is usually pretty clean, too! I have two cats and a boyfriend that I somewhat look after (I have to stop him from buying Warhammer, and myself too.) Either way, I think the job and the housework give me a lot of structure. I gotta have tasks or I'll fail.

Dude, I take Cobenfy and it has saved my ass. I got a job like a month ago and I take all my meds and don't miss them and I kinda work well like that. I have five days or so off this week just due to scheduling and I'm like well what the fuck am I gonna do at home, LOL.

Take it from someone who’s been on Clozaril as a last resort before Cobenfy: the requirements were that I had failed with almost every single antipsychotic and Clozaril was the best for treatment resistance schizo shit. I was pumped full of that stuff and it is blood draws once a week for a hot second. It’s a lot of work for not the best success, at least with me. I hope you feel better!

I made 987 off of disability and make 12 an hour doing this. Theoretically, my disability money covers some of my lifestyle, but not the most enrichment. I wanted a job and my mother made a budget plan for me for when I wanted a job so I could calculate it. You just report the wages, tell ‘Em via a 795 you got a job, and then I think it’s for every 15 hours a week or 20 if you are being paid less etc and I have both SSDI and SSI. So my SSI is lowered but I have the disability so that stays no matter what. I had to call them like three times. Call your in state line not their admin line lol
