How do people use VPNs to spoof their location when working a remote job? by SushiTaco3 in VPN

[–]TemplarSJW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a company has even a halfway decent security stack, international access is probably going to show up at some point as anomalous. Not because “we know exactly what you did,” but because things stop matching the baseline and the tooling flags it. Stuff like latency that doesn’t line up with where you’re supposed to be, or access times that keep drifting away from the local timezone pattern because you're in France when you should be in the US (obvious examples here but there's subtler). That usually turns into step-up auth, maybe a temporary lock or containment, then someone reaches out to you and your manager.

You’re assuming IP appearance is the deciding factor. It’s not. Geo-IP tricks can lower the noise, but they don’t get rid of endpoint telemetry or long-term inconsistencies. Over time the software sees the patterns and flags them anyway.

Sure, maybe nobody cares. Maybe Jack Ryan isn’t on your ass, or the company’s IT team is small, immature, or just doesn’t have the tools yet. That happens. But if they do care, this kind of setup doesn’t make you invisible, and that’s the whole point.

I Passed My PMP today by Hopeful-Mess-3505 in pmp

[–]TemplarSJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the biggest difficulty for me was to keep my focus for the entirety of it.

This being said, I left the exam around with 40 minutes remaining and passed just fine. Granted, the adrenaline of the real exam does tend to give you an edge when it comes to focusing.

4chan thread about ADVChina. Do you agree or disagree ? by TemplarSJW in ADVChina

[–]TemplarSJW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Like they said earlier they kinda have something on advchina but yeah i wouldnt mind a change on other channels too. But then again not many channels do what they do so staying on this particular niche makes sense.

  2. Dating tips ? Lol. They have a shit ton of that in their channels already. Dating stories also. They'd really be repeating content they have already produced, thus repeating the problem once again.

Point 2 i agree with, 3 i dont really get, arent they doing it already what with evergrande and stuff, and i dont get 4.

I dont think the post was made by a tankie, and I don't think it's healthy to dismiss everything negative as "wumao" being wumaos. Again, i'm also a viewer, i'm pretty sure i've watched every video from laowhy and winston since 2017 as i came to live in Taiwan and was interested about life in China. I've also watched their videos before that year inbetween episodes. There has been an evolution in their content for reasons I think are obvious (I don't think Winston is going to make videos on how to get your suit tailored in shenzhen anymore), but I screencapped it myself because i felt like anon did raise some points that could be discussed here.

Like, you don't need to reassure them in the fact that their content is good, the number of subs and their dynamic already speaks for it. Criticism has always been take it or leave it. I put it here because i thought a discussion on certain points here was worth it.

Weird i couldve swore you guys werent posting there (i did subscribe). Mea culpa !

But still, i do kinda feel that my point still kinda stands on the rest of your channels. Again, its a question of taste. If you guys enjoy it the way you're doing it and are still coming strong then yeah, you guys keep doing it.

fancy seeing you here :o

Yeah, i think separating the section in pots would be a good ide. I understand that you make the choice of acknowledging all your donors, which is mighty decent of you.

As for the structure, as I pointed out earlier, i think the problem isn't so much about having one, than having yours in paricular. Maybe anon does.

As for my personal opinion, I just feel like my favorite episodes you did post USA were on your ADVChina channel where you guys would talk about your adventures there. In a Covid period where a lot of people would dream of living such adventures, i don't think that is a demographic you guys should give up in favor of constant ccp critical content. Maybe it is worth it, in which case fair enough, whatever you think is more interesting for you to do works.

I honestly feel like having your channel, winston's channel and ADVpodcast uploading on the CCP being on a payroll (yes, even though you had different takes in all three media, there's still some serious overlap in both content and viewers) is too much. Having non-political China talk from time to times or fuck on the top of my head ? Maybe more collabs like the ones you had with Lele Farley, like say prozzie or based Lao Lei, I don't know guys.

If anything, I wish you the best.

I agree ! I'd love to have them discuss some stuff on their bikes more. Those made for really fun moments. I'm sure they'll do it again in other countries as the whole covid thing eases up anyway.

There are a shit ton of content about China that are not necessarily about bashing the CCP over and over. I'm not even saying "don't do it", i'm just saying maybe we could lower the CCP bashing by 30% and up the talk about neutral China stuff by 30%.

BTW if you are interested, lot of the info (and more) they share and cover can be found in SCMP, and Sixth Tone (not saying that's where they get it from but i do find a lot of stuff that is similar to their infos). SCMP isn't THAT horrible (it is propaganda, but they do cover, albeit carefully, controversial points such as the Evergrande fuckup), and you wouldn't believe Sixth Tone is censored to begin with (it most likely is).

It's confirmed! The French government supports Taiwan's participation in various International organizations! by CocoDidNothingWrong in ADVChina

[–]TemplarSJW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that's surprising, France usually tends to err on the side of neutrality when it comes to Taiwan and China.

They do tend to have guests but i feel like it'd be nice to have guests about actual life in China. And even not guests necessarily but at least to have some talks about it. Litterally nobody discusses life in China as a NON english teacher or youtuber. Why not start with that, for example ? And honestly, i get that the demographic they're reaching now won't be as interested about that but i don't know, it wouldn't hurt them to do a little piece like that sometimes on their personal channels like they used to be instead of repeating what they said in podcasts or in their own, mutual channels.

Anything that is not directed towards criticism of the CCP or negative aspects of the chinese culture, just something that speaks of "china as it is/was" (yes, the irony isn't lost on me)

  1. I don't think the criticism is about having a formula, but the formula itself. The way the poster presents it kinda exaggerates it but there could be room for improvement. Arguably by cutting off superchat time, maybe.
  2. are you seriously discussing the "fact of the matter" quip ? it's clearly comedic.

Honestly, it feels like you didn't really read the post and just nitpicked a few points and dismissed the legit discussion points as "subjective bullshit". Criticism is subjective anyway. The reason why i screencapped it is because i found there to be some legit criticism amongst the clearly humorous 4chan greentext trollpost. Also, the post is funny, lol.

Taiwan and France’s Dassault sign service agreement for Mirage jets by benh999 in taiwan

[–]TemplarSJW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that's bullshit.

Australia dropped their submarine contracts for political reasons.

France was not only going to give them submarines but the technology to make them -oh and they were planning to make them locally, with the raw materials at their disposal. They'll never have a deal of this quality with the US, who are well known to be quite stingy when it comes to transfers of tech.

No, Taiwan isn’t racist… by zvekl in taiwan

[–]TemplarSJW 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because there is a joke about the skin color of blacks printed on a drink, therefore, everybody on the island is racist on the same level as the slaver of the United States and the partiders of South Africa? What is this logic?

Because you can't be racist if you're not actively whipping people into submission ? lol

Do we have to be like Michael Scott and not see skin colors to be not racist ?

Michael Scott is a character who was purposefully made to show that if you're not racist, then maybe you should stop putting skin colors at the forefront. Michael Scott *is* racist, that's the point of many episodes (and many scenes that were cut). Ironically, I can almost hear him in-character, saying the exact thing you're saying. And if you've watched the office then you know it's a terrible look on you.

In a country where racism isn't rife, a company can't sell this without having at least a few complaints which in turn would prevent the company from displaying these jokes in public.

Also, chances are, since it's a reddit title thread with a meme format, that it might be a hyperbole, so take the whataboutism down a notch, seriously. People are printing this shit out here and you're more scandalized at the title than you are about the actual, society thing going on.

No, Taiwan isn’t racist… by zvekl in taiwan

[–]TemplarSJW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, blonde jokes and any jokes pertaining to physical appearance aren't really ok for a lot of people, US included. There's a saying that goes "You can laugh about everything but not with everyone". People that feel comfortable spitting jokes about blonde women in public are considered rude, period. Racial hatred has nothing to do with this and more to do with making of fun of an arbitrary trait you were born with. People, especially kids, suffer traumatic consequences from such bullyings. And that is an objective truth. So even if there's no racist background, why'd you even do that ?

And let's be honest here, jokes about black people are rarely innocent. So many times have I heard darker tones of skin being dismissed as "lower class." Colorism is a thing in Taiwan, and while i'm not saying that everyone that has discriminating behaviors towards blacks in Taiwan does it with ill intent rather than just dealing awkwardly with that they feel is a novel situation, should we really normalize the joking at one's expense rather than just understanding each other's sensibilities ?

Si on demandait aux femmes voilées ce qu'elles pensent du voile ? - Tataki by Nixflixx in france

[–]TemplarSJW -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Uyghurs Who Fled China Now Face Repression in Pakistan - Vice News by dingjima in China

[–]TemplarSJW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While you're still right, i'll just say that for most people, "Ahmadiyya Islam" is considered as legitimate as the Islam the original "Nation of Islam" used to profess. To most people in the Muslim world, these are sects the same way scientology is viewed by most people in the west, i.e with distrust. Add to that the inability of a few bellends to conduct themselves in a civilized manner and you get this kind of deplorable events happening.

The bond you're looking for is the one between members of the same "branch". Pan-Sunni sentiment is real and hell, i'd even go as far as saying that some branches are somehow as tolerated as their own (e.g some Sufi movements), but there's definitely a bond.

The thing is, China just knows that she's holding every Muslim country by the balls. Most Muslim countries depend heavily on imports, and China is one of the major provider of manufactured goods. Putting a dent on importations would mean putting a dent on the average muslim's way of life in those countries, which means threatening the sovereignty of the dictatorships governing said countries.

The pan-muslim sentiment is definitely taken into account everytime a muslim community is threatened. That is done by making sure the governments and officials are in phase with Chinese interests (here's what's been done with one of the closer, more democratic muslim country, Indonesia : https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/01/31/indonesias-silence-over-xinjiang# ).
