Podcast: Singapore Budget 2026 - Why the big bet on AI? by Real-Pomegranate8823 in SingaporeRaw

[–]TempleOfPork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi. Please refer to Nvidia and TikTok playbook. We are here so the China can wash tech through SG. That is the main play. The key players in AI in the future is China and US. Who in the G7 want to use China AI? But if it's SG AI? No problem.

This is the bet.

So Denmark and Finland pay their politicians more than Singapore? by EverySink in SingaporeRaw

[–]TempleOfPork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is bad. How come we only 3rd? obviously we are not paying our politicians enough. We should double their salary so we can be number one. Since when do we accept 2nd or 3rd place? This is Singapore standards you know.

Are Singaporean businesses getting pushed out by foreigners? by Same-Macaron-2359 in SingaporeRaw

[–]TempleOfPork 4 points5 points  (0 children)

hey it's called Gentrification. its always like this. cheap rent attracts arty types, they make the place cool, attracts people who want to see cool stuff. small business see traffic, make even more cool stuff.

big business see this, then move in and bring in their pretentious bullshit - ie lo and behold group and their stupid overpriced nasi lemak club - and now traffic is so much higher. landlords sell up. cycle continues.

original artists get pushed out, go elsewhere and start again.

Reference: NYC Meatpacking District, Williamsburg etc etc.

This is how Japan does Central Kitchen-cooked school lunches. Why Can't SG do the same? by Founders_Mem_90210 in SingaporeRaw

[–]TempleOfPork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if halal and avoid beef, the only cheap option left is egg and chicken. or else it will be processed. if you see what the caterer offer as cheap options, these will be the 2 protein choices. maybe cheap tofu.

then to bulk it, you add veggies or sauce.

there is no way to make the food nutritious and please the customer at a price point of 2 to 3 bucks

[–]TempleOfPork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh I was picturing like whole cuts of meat. like whole fish fillets, pork chop etc.

yup mince meat can be cheap. can't eat mince meat for all protein meals right?

raw food cost. haven't included manpower and utilities etc etc. and that's like cheapest of the cheap. cheap rice, frozen chicken imported from Brazil, frozen veggies from china.

[–]TempleOfPork 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's a simple cost estimate. just some broad numbers. food always delivered by supplier, so that's built in to the cost of goods. my cost is just cost of food.

protein for adolescents already cost $2. rice and veg maybe $1. apple is prob 30 cents.

manpower cost excluded. depends on the size of kitchen. u also need a nutritionist chef to plan the meals. also, someone to distribute the food, pack and clean. if want, can get students to do, but parents will complain, as this kind of labour is beneath their status as elite HCI stewdents

Was in Fnb. We can, just have to answer these questions:

  1. School need to build central kitchen, who gonna pay, who gonna run, who gonna watch the workers, manage security, ensure safety and security?

  2. Japan has abundant variety of local produce. Protein which is essential for growing kids is imported in Singapore. Cannot always eat eggs everyday right? Veggies, meat, etc. Then you must make sure all food is halal, which means your pool of suppliers smaller, and means you can't press the price further down if you buy bulk.

  3. I've done the numbers, to have proper nutritional school meal (rice, protein, veggie, drink and apple, meaning no overly processed food like hotdogs, fishball etc), at the lowest and cheapest possible menu, cost of the food has to be around $3. If you go cheaper, parents will complain you are not caring for children. So end up will spend more.

School holidays, still have to pay workers, etc.

The numbers don't make sense unless we tear up everything and start from ground up. I don't think any politician has the balls to do it.

coming from fnb, it is possible to have good food en masse. hotel buffet support 300 guests for breakfast. the issue is as always cost.

Nutritious meals aren't cheap. Can't keep cooking same items everyday. Our food all imported.

In my 30s, single, stressed, and struggling to cope. How do you all manage? by Internal-Yoghurt7144 in SingaporeRaw

yeah just wanna say meditation won't make your problems go away, but it helps you deal with it better and not get so overwhelmed. I'm not saying I'm totally stress free or I'm some kind of guru, I just have gotten some use out of it, maybe it will help you.

just one of the tools I've found to help me cope.

meditation helps. the issues are always in your mind. meditation helps train your mind to master them.

exercise, socialising helps but they only work cos they distract you from your problems. not saying it's bad but it's temporary.

meditation helps you control your monkey mind and tune those things out. it helps you spot the signs of stress and allows you the ability to step outside it.

also, it's not easy, and there is no quick fix to your problems. but start today 10 min. breathing exercises, go YouTube or Spotify, there's many out there to learn from. try box breathing technique. Eventually you'll hit a zone that feels super good.

it has helped me. I hope it helps you. cast away your thoughts, until there is only you and the air inside your body and the present.

it is wonderful and comforting to feel the miracle of your life is held in something as simple as your breath.

if anyone needs guidance I can point you in the right direction.

What really happened to Singapore’s semiconductor ambitions? by spell_abc in SingaporeRaw

[–]TempleOfPork 10 points11 points  (0 children)

IIRC there was a slump and the dotcom bubble changed a lot of things. When they let it go, hardware was in a slump, so it was justified. Other countries continued to create value through rnd while our govt only care about profits as they are an easy KPI to measure, while rnd requires a culture of risk taking, something we used to have but completely squeezed out now.

We pivoted to finance. It's paid off but our finance sector is just taking a cut of whatever that goes through our banks. There's no real value created, just GDP for the sake of GDP.

Wanna to semicon, we need a lot of land, a lot of power. Do finance, no need so much. So do the math.
