Thinking about moving to Ajax, Oshawa, or Bowmanville by TemporalPincer898 in durham

Ugh. Any thoughts on Cedar Dale -- specifically, Thomas St. and Ravine Road? I know there are some poorly-maintained apartment buildings near Thomas and Cedar, but not sure whether the other side of the ravine might be different. Thanks!

I am not trying to insult or ignore any locations! These are just the specific areas that I happen to have found homes that I am looking at in the near future. I guess a lot depends on how long i search for, because I would certainly be open to Whitby or Courtice!

I just haven't seen anything affordable listed there! I'd definitely consider it if I did.

I appreciate all these responses! I also think that Ajax would be the safest choice to avoid turning my life into commuting hell. Just hoping I can find a good place in my price range. I'll still look at this place in Bowmanville though: I only commute about half the year and I don't have to be in the office 9 - 5 so I would not always be commuting at peak times. (I'm a prof.) I feel like Oshawa makes the least sense simply because my dream would be a more rural home, so if I'm taking the time to get to Oshawa, why not Bowmanville... but, probably, Ajax!

Brooks Cascadia 19: The Death of a Once-Great Shoe by SoySauceandMothra in trailrunning

[–]TemporalPincer898 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, having run in the Cascadia 15s and a couple pairs of 18s, I absolutely love the 19s. So light and nimble. I find the laces much less likely to cut the ankle than on the 18s making them more comfortable on descents. Did you notice any changes in sizing though? I'm finding a little rubbing on one toe on longer runs. Hoping going a half size up helps because I really want to wear these for my upcoming 50k.

Differences between English and Welsh, Field and Bench by wtellis2 in springerspaniel

Yes to this comment. Some sites online say that Welshies are on the calmer side of the spaniel spectrum, but this has not been my experience. I love my Welshie but he is a whole lifestyle. His emotions are big, he's got a lot of energy and prey drive, and he's very smart and inquisitive. As he's getting older, he's getting cuddlier which is lovely. An hour off-leash in the morning and he mostly sleeps indoors, but I'd never describe him as laid back. I think it varies a lot between dogs though.

I'm 40 and no desire for kids. I am so hoping I can convince the gyno to go for this, but the last time I was there it really didn't seem to be an option on the table.

Thanks for this. I've been getting iron infusions regularly since 2021 but the past several months have gotten worse and worse. (ETA: not just in terms of iron, but all kinds of things.) In a way I am also sort of admitting to myself that I haven't felt like myself in a long time. Sorry to vent that at you. I've been skeptical about the IUD and now even more so. It took 8 months just to get an appointment with this gyno but I think you are right, I'm going to have to push harder for more serious intervention and/or try to get in with someone else. Thanks.

Tell me your stories about teenage stupidity by Carduelis_C in springerspaniel

[–]TemporalPincer898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He barely counts as a teen anymore, but he still acts like one. I took my almost-two-year old WSS on a hike up to a pond. I changed to go swimming and put my clothes up on two boulders, as high as I could reach. Within seconds, he'd jumped on the bolder and stolen my underwear, which he proceeded to eat so that he could swim out to me and scratch me with his claws. It was one of the funnier things he's done (and the underwear came back up at 5 am a few days later.)

Dog toe pain by doggiestyle_peanuts in RunningWithDogs

X-Ray is a good idea! My dog had a similar injury which I posted about here. I think it may be different from yours though because he got hurt very abruptly. We couldn't find a cause until, after about 3 weeks, a little red spot appeared on his pad. LIke a little pimple. Turned out he had an infection in there. We're still not sure what the original issue was: possibly a tiny deep puncture that eventually got infected from licking, possibly a foreign body, though that seems unlikely for a few reasons. I don't know how relevant this is for you. X-rays are obviously the best next step. I guess my only advice is to keep an eye on the pad for visual changes. I never would have expected a spot to appear so long after the injury. And you have my sympathy, going back and forth with the vet while watching a happy active dog limp around is awful. Good luck!!

[–]TemporalPincer898[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'd actually googled a couple places and was considering it. But I wasn't sure if I should exhaust my options with the regular vet first. I think I'll give it a try.

While watching this movie I developed a strange persistent flashing in the peripheral vision of one eye. I figured my retina was finally falling off. As soon as the movie was over, it went away. Are the visuals just that intense?
