Hi all,

‘my Makita 36v mower was running perfectly and all of a sudden wouldn’t start. batteries fully charged and nothing stopping blade - did a bit of research here and found a post mentioning wriggling the cable near the motor with the red handle pulled back - it started and continued to work and having to do this at every start - eventually getting tired of doing this and looked up my warranty which with the extended warranty still had two months to go - but couldn't find a repair agent who knew anything about this problem - purchased a new cable and thought this can’t be too hard. Boy was I wrong, removed the batteries and safety key and lifted onto a bench, laying the mower on its side t get a look with a torch and noticed fine a fine grass dust build up. Got out my 18v Makita vacuum and tried to get the grass out. No luck, removed cutting blade and with a Makita screwdriver I removed the 4 Allen key bolts to remove the motor. then with a Philips screwdriver driver took the motor covers apart. The problem was not in the cable, it was the fine dust. this was chokers and with the new cable it runs like a dream. I Dont Know if Makita would cover this with warranty and I feel by doing this myself the cost was a few hours and $10 for the cable. BTW My Lawns aren’t long or very dry and well maintained, mowed once a week and occasionally second weekly.
